I have several people who were cremated and are buried in a cemetery - you don't have to be sprinkled any place - you can be buried - Wilma Fleming Haynes [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, October 08, 2002 2:50 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [GenWisc] Re: cremation My grandfather's death certificate says he was cremated. My grandfather's death certificate says he was cremated. Also stated he was in a cemetery. Judy
Is there any type of record that tells if someone has been cremated, and if they were disposed of in the ocean, or a cemetery, and where would one find this? Thank you, Greta
Does anyone know how I can determine if a veteran of the Spanish American War received a pension? The person I'm researching was hospitalized because of illness during his enlistment however never left the US. Janet in Montana
I also found my Ggrandfather. He went to visit his son in S. D. and died and was buried in Hartland, WIS. When I found him I also found a son ( I thought my grandmother was an only child) When I called the descendants I told them that my father was Robert and his brother Clyde and they tole me they hadhad a picture of the 2 boys when they were infants(the very same picture I have hanging in my house). I hope to be visiting with the descendants in spring. Lenora from Wis. Strange that you brought that up! I was just discussing that with my wife last night and I have been looking around here to see if I could find anything. I have an aunt who is 80 years old who told me that my great grandfather was taken back up to Wisconsin to be buried with his family but when I went to visit my grandfather's grave, there was my great grandfather. I believe that somewhere in her subconscious is the truth that someone was sent back to Wisconsin but she may have just got the folks mixed up! I just wanted to tell you thank you for the suggestion. Did Grandma go to Texas with the rest of the family? Check records there to see if she died there. I had a great great grandfather who lived in Wisconsin and his wife died here in 1869. He went to South Dakota in 1884 to homestead and died in S. Dakota in 1901. He was brought back to LaFayette Co. Wis to be buried next to his wife. I contacted the court house in Dakota and they gave me a copy of a permit to remove a body by train to Wisconsin. Perhaps this happened with your Grandma. Good luck G Clayton Hi, Can someone answer a question for me? I am trying my hardest to find my gg grandmother's place of death. I know where she is buried but I can't find the obit in that county. My question is this - can I request a copy of the death certificate from the Wisconsin Archives without a county listed. As I said, I have the birth and death date, and I know where she is buried. I just can't find where she died. Being as she died in 1908, it seems there would be an obit in whatever county that she was in. Do you think that I would be able to get the info I need from a death certificate from the state and would I be able to get it without a county name listed? I am looking for the last name of Lewellyn. It has been spelled many different ways. Most of my line started out in Batavia, New York and some of them wound up in Wisconsin. I agree it is well worth the money for me, but it is my opinion that ancestry.com census records are worth it ONLY IF: 1. You have enough information to find your ancestor without use of an index. 2. You have a broadband (fast) Internet connection 3. You use IE6 and have a relatively new (less than 2 years old) PC If your ancestors lived in an urban area, you really need that street address to find them in the census, even if the year is indexed. For example, ancestry.com has an index to the 1920 census. I have found my Gajdosz ancestors indexed as Kajdosz and Gardacki and my Malewicki ancestors indexed as Maleski. Even the soundex search didn't help me find these misspellings, I needed the street address. As for #2 and #3 above, if you don't have a fast connection and use IE6 it's probably not worth the frustration. Do a free trial first to see if your machine can handle it and MAKE SURE to cancel before your free trial ends or you're stuck for the full year. I just want to let people know about Missing Links and Somebody's links. I have been subscribed to it for over two years now, and I don't miss an issue. These newsletters let others who have genealogical materials that aren't theirs to post them to the world and see if someone claims them. This is a wonderful resource, but it may be gone by the end of the year. If you can please pass this on to other lists (once per list) and fellow genealogists, if you want to help save this valuable resource. It can be found at http://www.petuniapress.com/ . >From the Editor: >>While I have not drawn a line in the sand, the end of this year is a target date for reassessment and decision-making that is rattling around in the back of my mind. So, there you have it. If you would like for MISSING LINKS and SOMEBODY'S LINKS to continue, please do what you can to help spread the word. I just wanted to share these two free newsletters. Missing Links and Somebody's Links. They are a free, and though I haven't ever "scored" directly, I found an old family Bible for a person in my church and pictures for a person that is in my family tree but not in a direct line. (I never would have told him if they had been my line ). >grin< I do enjoy these two letters a lot. Again, no charge at all. Check them out at the below address...... http://www.petuniapress.com/
I am looking for information on an Earbin/Eurbin Peters. I feel that his father was Victory Peters, and mother Lucretia Flood. They were born in Vermont and lived in Monroe Co, Wisconsin, from about 1850 on. Eurbin was in the 1870 census living with Thomas Stearns and his family. Ashley Peters later married Thomas's daughter Wealthy Stearns. So I strongly feel Ashley and Eurbin Peters were brothers. This is the little information I could find on Eurbin. Land records PETERS EURBIN 1876 Clark 0.0000 PETERS EURBIN 1876 Clark 160.0000 Eurbin purchased was in Sherman Township, Clark County , from the legal description. This would join Loyal Township on the east side. Any hints as to what I should do now or where to look for information? Thank You, Judy Peters

Keep in mind that the place of burial or residence is NOT necessarily same as the place of death. If you died in another county, that county would have the death certificate, not the county of residence or the county where the burial took place. Wherever a person died...that is the county to search for death certificates. The only exception might be if they had business in two different counties where a copy of the Will and death certificate would have to be filed with the Probate courts.
I would try the county where she was buried. The funeral directors are a wealth of information from their records. They would know where she died. Start there. If any one is looking for men from the various units of the Civil War, use Yahoo or Google and type in the unit ie. 57th Indiana Voluntary Infantry or the like. Most states, have a lot of units on line. Maine has complete compilation of its CW men. Also I have add. for anyone thought held in Andersonville, GA, Confed. prison. Research is free.
