Dear Ashley: Are you doing Wis. census lookups. If so we have a couple requests to send. Have a Happy New Year. I am still seeking info on these families in Manitowoc area. Another family member has sent me copy of a "statement of death" from my husband's gramma Rosalia Neilitz. It shows her parents as Father: Peter NEILITZ, Mother: Anna PANKAU I have been assuming Neilitz to be German and Pankau, Polish........ can someone verify that? I have asked some of you to look up a Pankau family (under varied spellings) without success. That seems to tell me Peter and Anna were already married when they arrived in Wisconsin. Now then, I suppose I need to establish when they first show up on a census record in Wisconsin. Can someone help? Grandma Rosalia was born January 17, 1878 , unknown whether she had siblings. Peter and Anna's marriage would probably be within the 1870's. and I expect they came to the US soon after. Following that line of thinking, an 1880 census would hopefully show them. I understand the 1890 census is partially destoyed, but is there maybe a state census for that period? I do appreciate your help. My Gramlow family has photos of Edwin Beske. Edwin's sister Bertha married into my Schulz family. I've just learned the exact nature of the relationships between the Gramlow, Schulz and Beske families in Dodge Co. and have copies of original Beske family birth and marriage records from Prussia. Would like to have more information on the Beske family and contact with anyone who may be a descendant. Thanks. [email protected]

Lottie, As near as I can tell the Chamberlin you mentioned is not related to my Chamberlain. The H. B. Chamberlain I am researching served as a musician during the Civil War, listed himself as "artist" on the 1870 census and as "photographer" on the 1880 census. He lived in the Shullsburg/Darlington area of LaFayette County during his adult years. Good morning, I'd like to take this opportunity to ask the people on these Lists to learn more about the "British Home Children" aka "Home Children, Canada," who were the "orphans and unwanted children" which "England" shipped out of their country.. and sent to Canada .. from ~1860 to ~1930. There were 100,000 of them .. and counting.. And, many more were shipped to Australia and New Zealand .. and some to South Africa ... "England" sent them to all "British Colonies" including some to "the 13 Colonies" .. starting in the 1600's. If you would like to learn more about these children .. and what happened to them, you may join the BHC List .. at www.rootsweb.com Go to the home page and scroll down to the Mailing List INDEX .. You will find the BHC List under "Canada." Reading the Archives of this List will be quite an education for you; but be forewarned it is a 3-tissue read. You may also put the terms, "British Home Children" or "Home Children, Canada" or "Child Migrants" into a search-engine and find web sites about them, including the following: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~britishhomechildren/ http://www.orphantrainriders.com/HomeChild/HomeIndex.html Several databases are being constructed of the names of the "Home Children," and one database can be found at the National Archives of Canada web site: http://www.archives.ca/02/020110_e.html Thank you for your time. I hope someone on the list may be able to help. My grandfather John L. Bryant (1873-1933) was , I believe, a professional photographer for a short period of time in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. I have some family photogtaphs taken by him, but have no idea how large a business he had or whether he had an actual studio in Sheboygan Falls ( or worked from his home ) If anyone has photographs taken in or around Sheboygan Falls -( probably in the 1920s ) and labelled with the Bryant name on them I would be delighted to hear and receive information about them. I found this one that was taken by Chamberlain... http://www.triniab.com/Sampson/parttwo/pages/pt2pg5.htm I have been trying to date these photos in hopes that it will be bring me closer to an identity for the people. Same here - I have a collateral ancestor who was a photographer in Darlington, Wisconsin around the late 1800's. I have seen sterographs made by him on ebay (and would have loved to have purchased them) but, alas, could not afford them. If anyone has any photos by or information on H. B. Some time back some one recommended a good search engine to use for genealogy, that it was better than Google. I lost my hard drive, and therefore, that information. But I loved the search engine and can't remember the name. Karolyn
Does anyone know the name of the organization that helps adopted children locate their biological parents/and visa versa? The child was born out of wedlock in Wisconsin about 30 years ago while his mother was imprisoned at Techeda Prison. I have both the mother's maiden name and father's name, but little else. Thanks for any help. Patti Laessig at [email protected]
