Did you try this address? Maybe they would have the address of someone connected to Iron COunty. Looks like no one ever adopted that county. If you want to Adopt Iron Co., e-mail Tina Vickery, the Wisconsin State Coordinator. [email protected] Maybe writing to this address would get some answers to questions. Well thanks for the info. I never knew that about the currency. Anyway, I did look up Liberace because I never heard he was born there either. The one site I saw said he was born in West Allis which I think is down by Milwaukee or possibly by Madison. I don't think it was Menasha. It's really great to learn new stuff every day. I found this, it may help: the Iron Co. website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiiron/index.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ron Holmquist" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, February 16, 2003 4:52 PM Subject: [GenWisc] Viscous rumor, death of Susan Lahti Knuutila Gobie. Hi Folks Would someone on the list please help me and my family ascertain if a viscous rumor (listed below) about the death of our grandmother, Susan Lahti Knuutila Gobie, is true or false? In the winter of 1911 or 1912 in Iron County, WI, perhaps in the town of Montreal, Susan was found lying in the snow. The family rumor is that she fell into a snow bank, passed out from drinking too much liquor and froze to death. Grandma would have been about 50 years old when this happened. Maybe someone wrote an article in the local newspaper describing the incident. I've been unable to find a death certificate for Susan. Is it possible that someone could help me with this, also? My family and I would sincerely appreciate any information concerning this rumor Thank you!! Sincerely yours, Ron Holmquist 133 Bienville Rd Folsom, LA 70437. ==== GenWisconsin Mailing List ==== Mailing list moderator: Brenda K. Wolfgram Moore email: [email protected]

Check out the new on-line index at the Wisconsin Historical Society http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/wni/index.asp http://www.wisconsinhistory.org see FAQ's http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/wni/faq.asp 1. What sources are indexed? More than 1500 publications were indexed by Wisconsin Historical Society librarians between 1870 and 1970. These included 150 county and local histories, dozens of professional directories and biographical encyclopedias, more than 60 scrapbooks containing 30,000 obituaries, and selected articles in Wisconsin magazines and newspapers. It combines the old card file you probably knew as the Wisconsin Necrology with newly added material and it's now a on-line index.
If there is such a book, I would be VERY interested in a lookup for John DuPont and Rosa, sometime around 1820-1835, who are my ultimate brick wall. << Allen County Public Library Genealogy Department OPEN!!! >> Want to let everyone know it is really nice there. Was there last Saturday with the DSGR Annual Bus Trip. The stacks are open and it is SOOOOO nice to be able to read the different titles in the area I am interested in. The collection is LARGE. Finding a place to eat was the only problem. Take a sandwich with you and maybe go outside to eat. There might be plans for that problem, but taking a sandwich with you could avoid any major problems for you. Susanne
Whoops - wrong title - It was: Genealogy of the French Families of the Detroit River Region 1701-1911 by Dennissen. There used to be a book in the Seattle public Library - it was 2 volumes and it listed marriages around Milwaukee. Seems it was called something like Marriages of Northern Wisconsin. The books were blue. Do any of you know the correct title? I would like a look up for a marriage of Baptist LaSart and Mary ? between 1830 and 1860. Thank you. Karen
My grandmothers Maiden name was ADLER and she was from Milwaukee WI. if interested let me know thanks Lynda
Sorry I misspell it. it is Wheeler, Wi. Dorothy
I believe that it is now called Weeler. It is near Menomonie, Wi. west of Eau Claire. Dorothy
