    3. Looks like an accident, seems computer error, since Claudine Enterline's email address couldn't be <[email protected]> as the message states. I don't even really know the person, but have been recieving messages for lists I don't even belong to, as well as administrative messages to lists I don't administer. It was quiet that day, the guns and the mortars, and land mines for some reason hadn't made a noise. The young soldier knew it was Sunday, the holiest day of the week. As he was sitting there, he got out an old deck of cards and laid them out across his bunk. Just then an army sergeant came in and said, Why aren't you with the rest of the platoon?" The soldier replied, I thought I would stay behind and spend some time with the LORD." The sergeant said, "Looks like you're going to play cards." The soldier said, "No sir, you see, since we are not allowed to have Bibles or other spiritual books in this country, I've decided to talk to the Lord by studying this deck of cards." The sergeant asked in disbelief, "How will you do that?" You see, The Ace, Sergeant, it reminds that there is only one God. The Two represents the two parts of the Bible, Old and New Testaments. The Three represents the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. The Four stands for the Four Apostles: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The Five is for the five virgins that were ten but only five of them were glorified. The Six is for the six days it took God to create the Heavens and Earth. The Seven is for the day God rested after working the six days. The Eight is for the family of Noah and his wife, their three sons and their wives, in which God saved the eight people from the flood that destroyed the earth for the first time. Nine is for the lepers that Jesus cleansed of leprosy. He cleansed ten but nine never thanked Him. The Ten represents the Ten Commandments that God handed down to Moses on tablets made of stone. The Jack is a reminder of Satan. One of God's first angels, but he got kicked out of heaven for his sly and wicked ways and is now The Joker of eternal hell. The Queen stands for the Virgin Mary. The King stands for Jesus, for he is the King of all kings. When I count the dots on all the cards, I come up with 365 total, one for every day of the year. There are a total of 52 cards in a deck; each is a week, 52 weeks in a year. The four suits represents the four seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter Each suit has thirteen cards, there are exactly thirteen weeks in a quarter So when I want to talk to God and thank Him, I just pull out this old deck of cards and they remind me of all that I have to be thankful for." The sergeant just stood there and after a minute, with tears in his eyes and pain in his heart, he said, "Soldier, can I borrow that deck of cards?" Originator Unknown~ Please let this be a reminder and take time to pray for all of our soldiers who are being sent away, putting their lives on the line Fighting for us. Send this on so that we can have a multitude praying for our people and our country & God Bless America!

    1. [GenWisc] Ritter questions
    2. I'm looking for Henry Ritter's death certificate Born abt 1824 or abt 1844. In 1874 he owned a farm just west of Newburg's Corners in Section 16. In 1890: Frank RITTER owned Henry's farm. Where would I look for when the farm was sold and where his death certificate would be? Washington, Monroe, or LaCrosse Co? He could have died any where from 1879 to (his wife's second marriage) on February 24, 1884. As you can see big span of time so finding when the farm was sold might narrow the search. One other question if there was a divorce rather than death to cause the second marriage who has those records? The reason for the big span for his birth date is I found my RITTER family in Germany with one Henry born in 1824 but this could have maybe been my Henrys father? My Henry's wife Lucia Kurantz was born in abt 1855. So that would make the Germany Henry 30 years her senior if that Henry was her husband. thanks Lynn Colorado

    3. Hello Pat from Iowa, Firstly, I apologize for taking so long to respond. I have been overwhelmed, as of late. Secondly, do you have any dates for Ellen? My guess is that she went by a middle name, or a nickname. I have listed below some of what I have found on Ancestry.com. I would also like to forward your query to Mr. Phil Delamarter, who has written the latest genealogical survey of this family. I will NOT do so without your permission, however. I would love to continue to share information. The Wisconsin Delamater's are some of the most elusive to track down, but I am working on it! 3. Lita, The Wisconsin Historical Society in Madison has newspapers on microfilm for several areas in Wisconsin. I used to live in Oak Creek when I was young. It is in the Milwaukee area, so I would try the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for the obit. 3. Actually, that is NOT quite correct! If you will go to this site www.us-census.org/states/map.htm you will find a whole series of maps that correspond with EACH of the federal census years. If you look at the 1830 map you will see that it is in an area called "unorganized territory". It became the "Iowa Territory" in 1838 (look at the 1840 census map), and it became the state of Iowa in 1846. So between 1838 and 1846 it would have still been Iowa Territory. Hope that helps. By the way, you can print off these census maps for future reference. I use them to teach a genealogy class myself. Another place you can find more info about census is by going to www.nara.gov which is the National Archives site. I have learned that in 1838 and 1840 Iowa was counted in the WI Territorial Census. Would someone please send me a url (or two) of where I can find any information pertaining to that? Thank You Very Much, Sarah [email protected]
