The links for the earlier census just take you to the first page with that number.... such as page 199 A But if your person is on page 199 B then you have to page forward. Some census have page A B C D. Ancestry explains this in their instructions.
Gay - if you cannot find James Harrington in Ancestry on the census page given, try the page before and the page after. I have found they are usually off by a page.... Bonnie Hartmann Laguna Beach, CA

My James Harrington, whom I have tracked back to 1855 in Dunn county, had a wife Aurora, and children although I don't know ages or which ones would have been with the family in 1850. In 1860 Aurora was 50. The later census say the children were born in New Brunswick, Canada. One daughter, Mary, was married to Isaac Drury in 1852 in Illinois, they are also listed in 1855, next to James and Aurora Harrington and family. James and Aurora were born in Ireland. Children-Mary, Jeremiah, >argaret, John, Daniel, Hannah, Catherine- they were listed in James will, 1859. I recently joined ancestry.com and have started to search the 90+James Harrington-but some are not on the pages listed. I have concentrated on states east of Wisconsin-but who knows. I continue the search. Thanks for all the responses. I made a booboo last night when I posted a note saying "Please check out our Fairchild, WI. page." Sorry but I left out the addy. Here's the URL. http://www.geocities.com/sneezykat2003/WisconsinCountyHistorys/FairchildWI.html
As a result of the state budget crisis, the endangered list includes all the historic sites owned by the state of Wisconsin (according to the Wisconsin Trust for Historic Preservation). The budget cuts will also effect the Wisconsin Historical Library and the Historical Museum - help protect our heritage and our history. As a family history researcher you have very likely used the library in Madison... if the budget cuts are too severe even mandated services may have to be cut, such as burial sites protection and collecting government publications and records. Your support is needed to help reduce the reduction in the budget for the Wisconsin Historical Society. For information on the budget cuts http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/budget/ People need to attend the Legislatures Joint Finance Committee public hearings in your area. Testifying at a committee meeting, in person or in writing, is an effective way to let the members know your position. Don't let the word testify scare you... that is just how presentations to committees are labeled. You are limited to 3 minutes-be concise and clear. Register Support - Even if you don't intend to testify, registering is very important. Anyone can register their opinion to help educate their lawmakers. The lawmakers keep track of how many people register for a particular issue. Register AGAINST proposed reductions for Wisconsin Historical Society funds and staffing. Written statements may be given to the clerk when you register-for those of you who may not have the time to wait to testify. Thursday, April 3rd River Falls HS Auditorium Tuesday, April 8th UW-Platteville Center for the Arts 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 9th State Capitol Room 412-E Please see this letter from the president of the Wisconsin Genealogical Society. http://www.wiiowagensoc.org/ http://www.wiiowagensoc.org/WSGS1.pdf Family historians and the study of Wisconsin history are important to creating better citizens, more informed citizens, citizens that are more likely to vote and more likely to pay attention to civic matters. Please do not refer to family history as a hobby... there is no sympathy for supporting a hobby with tax money. http://www.legis.state.wi.us/cguide.htm

Do you have any information on James Harrington to help figure out which one might be him, round about birthyear or anything? I can look for you if you do. Sally Fisk
The only James Harrington that I was able to call up from the 1850 Wisconsin (US) census turned out to be a James Galigan as I read it. There were four that appeared, but only one that had an image. That's strange and the first time I've seen that happen, usually I can read them all, this was only one of four and incorrectly read, in my opinion. This was the Fond Du Lac in Forest Township that I am referring to. Sorry
Can anyone look for James Harrington in the 1850 census? I have found his name in Fond Du Lac(Forest), Lafayette(New Diggings) and Waukesha (Lisbon) counties. But I actually don't know where my James Harrington was before 1855 when he is in Dunn County. Thanks. Gay Murphy

Hello all: I've joined your list hoping to confirm the identity of the people in three photo's taken in Milwaukee. On the back of one picture is written "from Alf to Frank". This leads me to believe the subjects are Alfred Pipher b. 1874 and his wife Ada Lemon b. 1877 and their son Harold b. abt 1900. This family originated in the Markham, Ontario area. The photographers are Kohler, Saiwden & Hendershot, and Hammers Art Novelty Shop. Is there any source which can tell me when these business's were in operation? Can you suggest any sources which may place this family in the area. So far my research has been primarily Canada and England, so I'm starting green in the US. Jim

Hi everyong, I am going to be very brief because a few of the group have handled this situation quite well. Politics of any kind do not belong on a genealogy mailing list. Accidents to happen that is where the rule: No Flaming comes in: If you have something to say about an email that comes through.. write to me, Brenda at [email protected] or the person directly~ Often there are explanations that can be given to put the entire issue at rest~ Don't be hasty to others, it could happen to you someday! IF flaming occurs? don't forget it is my judgement on removing someone from this mailing list. So be careful how you react to any incident as it could put 'you' in the bad light and get yourself removed. I have not been on the computer much to catch all this right away. I have a life away from this screen and I _know_ you don't all need baby-sitter's. Any Questions? write to me! not the list!!!!! Brenda Brenda K.
