    1. My GENTRY line and HAGGARD line too

    3. For a number of years, I've had in my possession, about half a dozen copies of GENTRY FAMILY GAZETTE AND GENEALOGY, which were given to me by J.C. GENTRY, of Cabot, AR. As far as we knew then, we were not related. I have not been in contact with him, so I still don't know. In recent times, I have corresponded with Sheridan G. EVANS, of Kirkland, WA, as well as his sister, Joyce LINDSTROM, of Lewisville, ID, and they have supplied me with a lot of GENTRY information, and helped me connect back to Nicholas GENTRY I, the immigrant, and supposed brother of Samuel. They got a lot of help from Leland Homer GENTRY of Salt Lake City, and I also corresponded with Leland. The last I knew, Joyce's address is: [email protected] My GENTRYs migrated from Virginia to Kentucky to Missouri, then to Arkansas. Benjah Brooks GENTRY, b. 22 May, 1786, and his second wife, Rachel PHILLIPS, m. 19 Apr, 1809. George W. m Matilda ?(She was widowed, and later married Oscar ROBERTSON John W.,m Micah Elvira COOPER in Carroll Co MO) My grandfather, Elbert Marion GENTRY, b. 15 Mar, 1879 in Carroll Co. MO, d. Jackson Co. AR Micah "Mickey" COOPER) was the grandaughter of Benjah's brother, Robert GENTRY, b. 03 Apr 1784, and wife, Julia SIMPSON b. 1785, m. 03 Mar 1806 in Adair Co. KY. Micah's mother was Micah Mickey GENTRY, Robert and Benjah were sons of Nicholas III. That makes me doubly-descended, doesn't it? My only puzzle, as far as the GENTRY line is concerned, is what happened to Elbert's brother, Thomas. The last my mother (Essie Lee GENTRY HILL MOSS, deceased Aug 1998) saw of him, was at her father's funeral in Jackson Co AR. She knew he had several children, but didn't remember any of their names. It grieved her so that neither he nor his family kept up with her, especially since her father and mother died months apart, leaving Mother a young widow with a child, and also six younger siblings, one only a few weeks old. This was in 1927. Tom GENTRY supposedly lived at Eldorado, AR, at one time. Also, I have a friend who lives in Milan, and she is descended from Elizabeth GENTRY, (daughter of Nicholas II) b. 1731, who m. Nathaniel HAGGARD. They moved in 1788 to Clark Co. KY. She loaned me a book of the HAGGARD family, and I copied all pages dealing with GENTRY-HAGGARD ties. There was also a brother of Nathaniel HAGGARD, Edmund, who's grandson William, b. 05 Apr 1785, m. Polly GENTRY (b.in Madison Co, KY, and d. in Dubuque Co, IA). William's brother, David, b. 30 Jun 1789, married Elizabeth GENTRY, daughter of Jane Haggard GENTRY. This book is History of the HAGGARD family in England and America, 1433 to 1899 by David D. HAGGARD. 929.273 H122h On page 22 starts "Descendants of Nathaniel Haggard" "The records show that Nathaniel Haggard was born November 21, 1723, and that he married Elizabeth Gentry, a lady of English descent, and that they settled in Albemarle County, Virginia, near Charlottsbille. they were members of the Baptist church. they raised a family of seven sons and three daughters, as follows: Henry, born 1745: Baptist Preacher. Martin, born 1748; Baptist preacher. Elizabeth, born 1752, married Ned Kindred, a Baptist preacher. James, born 1759; Baptist preacher. Jane, born 1761; married a Mr. Gentry. (penciled in notes: Married Aug 7, 1785 to David Gentry. Also a date, Aug 1, 1841 death date for Jane, perhaps) Bartlett, born 1764 (Feb 4 penciled, also, May 18, 1847) carpenter and farmer (married Nov 17, 1785) David, born 1764, carpenter and farmer, twin to Bartlett. "Nathaniel Haggard family removed to Clark co Ky, and settled between Winchester and Boonsborough." I am sending this to list also: These friends of mine, descendants of Elizabeth Gentry and Nathaniel Haggard, list their lineage thusly: Nicholas Gentry I (the immigrant) Nicholas Gentry II (1697) Elizabeth Gentry (1731) sp Nathaniel Haggard (1723) I know their research has been done by their eldest daughter, who has been very active in genealogy, and has edited a West TN genealogy paper, and was the spearhead behind getting our county history published. The Haggard book says also that a grandson of Edmund Haggard, William, married Polly Gentry Jan 12, 1809. "In an early day he moved to Iowa and raised a large family". His brother David Haggard, born Jun 30, 1789 married Elizabeth Gentry, daughter of Jane Haggard Gentry, Jan 12, 1809. He died in Dubuque co Ia, Dec 21, 1865. His wife was born in Madison Co, Ky, Jan 6, 1788. She d. in Dubuque co, Ia, Sep 10, 1846, 13 children, 7 sons , 6 dau. I would think this particular book was published some time ago, because, I quote, "Nancy Haggard Smith, b. march 6, 1817,-lived at Strawberry Point, IA- has the old family bible, and is still living." She was the daughter of David and Elizabeth, above.
