JOHN C. "JACKSON" GENTRY was born Abt. 1837 in Georgia, and died 06-26-1862 in Columbus, MS. He married SARAH CORNETT 12-22-1858 in Russell Co., AL, daughter of HENRY CORNETT and EMILY SPIVEY. John and Sarah Gentry migrated from the GA/AL area to Hickory, MS in 1859/60. John C. Gentry enlisted in Company I, 36th Infantry Regiment, Mississippi Volunteers on Feb 24, 1862 for 12 months in Captain Redmond D. Ogletree's Company (Stephens Guards). They mustered in Meridian, MS. On May 30, 1862, he increased his enlistment to 3 yrs or the duration of the war. He died a few weeks later in the hospital at Columbus, MS. for unknown reasons. John and Sarah had only one child. "JACKSON") was born 05-29-1860 in Hickory, MS, and died 04-25-1947 in Newton, MS. He married MARY ELIZABETH (MOLLIE) NORMAN 11-18-1884, daughter of WILLIAM NORMAN and SARAH HAYES.
