My most wanted Gentry is a Shelton GENTRY. There were so many that I need to identify which one he was: There were about 4 Shelton Gentrys that I know of. There was one in NC, a second one was the son of Samuel Gentry who moved to Ohio Co. KY. The third was born in 1820, son of George Gentry and Jenny Howser. He married Mary Adaline Patterson in Warrick Co. IN. The 4th Shelton, the one who was my 3x great grandfather was the Shelton Gentry, born in KY ca 1819 who married Charlotte WHITTINGHILL 29 Jan 1843 in Warrick County. She died 10 March 1844 ae 19y 6mos 14d and was burried in Chinn Cem. dau of David and Elizabeth Young WHITTINGHILL. Shelton next married Matilda Emaline BOWEN JULIAN, widow of Whitman JULIAN on 25 Mach 1845. Shelton and Matilda had children: James P. GENTRY (blind) born ca 1846 Indiana Mary Louisa GENTRY (my great-great grandmother) born 2 Jun 1849 Warrick Indiana mar. 22 Nov 1865 Pike Indiana to: George Washington HULL died 14 Dec 1932 Oldfield Christian Missouri buried at Gardner Cemetery, Oldfield, MO Harriet GENTRY born 1850 Warrick Indiana Shelton is probably a grandson of Samuel Gentry, a Baptist minister who moved from Surry County North Carolina to Barren County Kentucky around 1812. Shelton, Sr. who died in Warrick County in 1833 did not show a Shelton in his list of children. Shelton and Matilda moved from Warrick to Pike County Indiana some time between 1860 and 1870 when they show up in the 1870 census for Pike County. The last child of Samuel Gentry and and his third wife Sarah BROCK was Altha Gentry (not his brother Arthur). Altha was the only child mentioned in Samuel's will. Altha was a widower in Skelton Township, Warrick Co, Indiana by 1850. He had a daughter Harriet born in Indiana ca. 1830. I thought he might be a candidate for my Shelton's father since named a daughter Harriet also. Ted Stout [email protected]
