In trying to understand the different William Gentrys, I looked at the entry on the Warrick Co. GenWeb site for Lynville Cem. which says Gentry, Mary (.......) b 26 Mar 1787, d 11 Feb 1849 Wife of William, Native of VA. (A3) It has been asserted that this is Mary Hodges, who married William son of Matthew Gentry, rather than Mary Whittinghill who married William son of Samuel Gentry. According to other reports on WorldConnect, Mary Hodges was daughter of William Hodges and Agnes Gentry. I do not think it is likely that Mary Hodges was born in VA because William Hodges was supposedly born in NC. Also, William Hodges and Agnes Gentry, daughter of Joseph Gentry and Agnes Shelton were said to have married on 28 Jan 1799. If this is true, it is the same day that Agnes Gentry, daughter of Samuel Gentry, married John Phillips in Surry Co. NC. If all this is true, it would seem aunt and neice had a joint wedding in NC and it would be likely that Mary Hodges was born in NC. Does any of this make sense, or is some of my old data in error? Ted
