This is from The Indianapolis News Monday Aug 6, 1956 MARTIN RITES TO BE WEDNESDAY As a boy Joshua Lloyd Martin participated in the running of the Cherokee Strip in Oklahoma. He did so only for a lark and did not establish a claim. Age 86, he died yesterday in Veterans Administration Hospital on West 10th. His home was at Fountaintown. Born at Carrollton, in Hancock County, Mr. Martin was the son of Jacob Martin, a Civil War veteran. Mr. Martin served in the cavalry in the regular Army before the Spanish-American War. He fell and was injured while he was in service. In his younger days Mr. Martin lived in the West. He had met William E. (Buffalo Bill) Cody. Mr. Martin was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Methodist Church at Fountaintown. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the L. V. Hauk Funeral Home at Morristown, with burial at Fountaintown. Survivors are the widow, Margaret Martin, whom he married 57 years ago; three daughters, Mary Campbell, Jersey Shore, Pa.; Louise Wilkes, Fountaintown, and Jeane Gentry, Indianapolis; two sons, J. Frank Martin, Fountaintown and G. Donald Martin, Corpus Christi, Tex.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
