My 4th g-grandfather Meshack Gentry served in the Revolutionary War, with DAR records that are unverified. One battle he fought was the Battle of Eutaw Springs. His grandson Pinkney Burton Gentry (my gg-grandfather) fought for both the Blue and the Grey in the Civil War (known in my Tennessee family as "the late unpleasantness") and he did not want to acknowledge his service-he never applied for his pension or even talked about the war. My father Dale Gentry served in the Korean War-he taught at the minesweeping school at Norfolk, VA (where he met my mother, and I was born!) My brother Michael Gentry served in the Navy in the Vietnam War. Those are the family members who served in the military in my Gentry family (that I can think of off the top of my head).
