Hi Norma- I have checked out the Worldconnect site for information on Allen D. Gentry (my 3rd g-grandpa), and some of it is correct, but golly, I sure don't know where a lot of it originates! It seems to me like one person put info online and then everybody else just copied. I haven't put my research online because frankly I don't have the time. Incorrect data annoys me, but people COPYING incorrect data and passing it on annoys me more (grin). One of my favorites is a guy who submitted data to a Family History Center on Allen D. Gentry's family, including a "daughter" of Allen's named Pinkney, born in the 1820s. Pinkney was a SON born in 1843. I know this because Pinkney Burton Gentry is my gg-grandpa! When I contacted the gentleman who had submitted the incorrect data, and asked if he could correct it, he said he wouldn't because it wasn't his family. If it wasn't his family, why had he submitted it to begin with? (big sigh) So I always tell people, even if you FIND information, research it yourself, because not everybody takes the time to make sure it is correct. Meg Gentry Bookout ps-At least he had the correct parents for Pinkney! Hi Meg, I knew someone on the list had Allen D. Gentry but I couldn't remember who. I agree about some of those family trees being copied from others, warts and all! I am hoping everyone knows that those sites are a great place to start, but you always need to verify the facts for yourself. I have found people unwilling to correct errors too. They put it up but are not connected in any way, and just don't care if it's correct or not. I sure don't understand how they can do that, but they do. So, let's all make sure we verify all our family tree. Don't take anything find on the web as gospel fact. Sometimes it is, sometimes it's not! Have a good day!
