    3. Hi Cousins, I have run across some names in the Ancestry 1920 index while looking for my Gentry kin, and I am amazed at how they got those names from Gentry! I was looking for William A. Gentry in Missouri tonight. It didn't list any Gentry in the index. So, I changed the search to looking for anyone born in Arkansas. I found a William A. Gantz. I took a look and sure enough, it was my William A. Gentry. The other night I found my mom's family. My grandpa was James Alfred Gentry. He went by the nickname Alf. Well, I found Alo Greeley in the index and checked that out and it was Alf Gentry!! I found his uncle in Livingston Co. Mo. listed as George Santry. His name was Green Gentry. So, don't rely on that index to find your kin. They could be listed an anything but Gentry! Have a nice weekend! John might be in the household with his stepfather, Oscar Robertson, and mother, Matilda, as he was in 1860, if not in a house of his own. The could also be in Micah's parents household, Alfred T COOPER was her father. Thanks for any help at all. 3. Hi Meg, I knew someone on the list had Allen D. Gentry but I couldn't remember who. I agree about some of those family trees being copied from others, warts and all! I am hoping everyone knows that those sites are a great place to start, but you always need to verify the facts for yourself. I have found people unwilling to correct errors too. They put it up but are not connected in any way, and just don't care if it's correct or not. I sure don't understand how they can do that, but they do. So, let's all make sure we verify all our family tree. Don't take anything find on the web as gospel fact. Sometimes it is, sometimes it's not! Have a good day! 3. Hi Norma- I have checked out the Worldconnect site for information on Allen D. Gentry (my 3rd g-grandpa), and some of it is correct, but golly, I sure don't know where a lot of it originates! It seems to me like one person put info online and then everybody else just copied. I haven't put my research online because frankly I don't have the time. Incorrect data annoys me, but people COPYING incorrect data and passing it on annoys me more (grin). One of my favorites is a guy who submitted data to a Family History Center on Allen D. Gentry's family, including a "daughter" of Allen's named Pinkney, born in the 1820s. Pinkney was a SON born in 1843. I know this because Pinkney Burton Gentry is my gg-grandpa! When I contacted the gentleman who had submitted the incorrect data, and asked if he could correct it, he said he wouldn't because it wasn't his family. If it wasn't his family, why had he submitted it to begin with? (big sigh) So I always tell people, even if you FIND information, research it yourself, because not everybody takes the time to make sure it is correct. Meg Gentry Bookout ps-At least he had the correct parents for Pinkney! 3. Hi Jennifer- I descend from Allen D. Gentry also, but through his 2nd wife Susan Ivey and their son Pinkney Burton Gentry (who is my gg-grandpa). I would be more than happy to share any and all information with you. I believe there are some other descendants of AJ Mullins and Nancy Gentry too, maybe on the Monroe County TN mail list. I'll snoop around and see what I can find for you. Nice to "meet" you, cuz! Meg Gentry Bookout Jennifer Mitchell wrote: > I am searching for information on Allen D. 3. Hi Deryl! I am a direct descendant of Simon Gentry. I have the same information as you about his movements from NC to TN to Monroe Co KY. I believe that Simon's wife's name was Catherine? They are shown together as members of the Mill Creek (Old Mulkey) Baptist Church as members in May 1832 (from the Monroe Co Website). I show that Simon had 3 children: Boone (no info at all on him), Richard b abt 1798 and daughter Rhody b after 1790. I am descended from Rhody Gentry. She married Lewis Wheeler March 1813 in Greene Co TN and about the mid 1830's Lewis moved the family to Monroe Co KY. Rhody died bef 1850 (from MC tax lists) and Lewis died abt 1869 in MC. Known children: Catherine (Katie) Wheeler b abt 1814 Greene Co TN James b abt 1816 " Margaret b abt 1818 " Mary b abt 1823 " Simon b abt 1825 " Isaac b abt 1829 " Rhoda b abt 1829 " Richard D b 1837 Monroe Co (my line) Arena b abt Dec 1844 " My cousin and I have done a lot of research on Lewis and his family and we have a theory that Isaac and Rhoda Wheeler (both b 1829) may not necessarily be brother and sister but possibly husband and wife (from census info). For quite some time, we also believed that Arena was a daughter of James Wheeler, but I eventually found her death record and her father is listed as Lewis Wheeler. The particular line of my Wheelers followed the Scottish naming pattern quite closely. The 2 older daughters were named for their grandmothers, 2 sons were named for their grandfathers and I believe that Richard Wheeler (my ggrandfather) was named for his uncle Richard Gentry. Isaac Wheeler was probably named for his uncle, Isaac Wheeler, a brother to Lewis Wheeler. James Wheeler also named one of his sons Lewis Wheeler. I haven't done a whole lot of research as yet into Simon and his direct line. And I haven't yet verified that this man Boone Gentry is definitely a son to Simon Gentry. I have been watching and reading the Gentry Journal website quite closely and have picked up bits and pieces of info, but the author hasn't yet arrived at the "stories" of my line of Gentry's. I'm looking forward to that when it comes!! I look forward to hearing from you - what is your line? Are you directly descended from Richard Gentry? regards, Colleen Lill Canada Simon b. abt. 1769 - NC(son of Richard b. abt. 1732 - VA) went from NC to TN where he lived for some time before going on to Monroe Co. KY in the mid 1830's along with his son, Richard b. abt 1798 in NC and other family members. Does anyone have any information on Simon, his wife, and other children? When and where he lived in TN and when he went to KY? Would love to exchange information. Deryl Phillips dphillips@texoma.net

    3. In looking for Marlin GENTRY, b TN, who was in Lyon Co KY in 1900, I find this. Putnam came out of Jackson Co, see 1850 below: 1860 TN Putman Co 101-42 James GENTRY 40 TN Mary wife 42 TN Adaville 16 TN Letha J. 14 TN James T. 12 TN Wm. C. 10 TN Geo L. 8 TN Marlin F. 4 TN Frank M. 1 TN I also found them in 1850, Jackson Co TN 21-320 James GENTRY 31 TN Mary 32 TN John L. 13 TN Adevill 5 TN Josephine 4 TN (a Josephine GENTRY m in nearby Smith Co, to Sydney SHOEMAKE 1864) Thomas 2 TN Wm 1 TN John 20 TN The nearest GENTRY neighbor to them in 1850, was Thomas GENTRY, age 54, wife Polly 47. I checked for James in 1840 and he is not listed in TN anywhere. So I checked the numbers on Thomas in 1840, and it appears James and family, and that John who was living with James in 1850, could be part of the household. Here is Thomas GENTREY family in 1850, Jackson Co TN 29-321 GENTREY, Thomas 54 TN Polly 47 TN Elizabeth 18 IL (that is strange) Sally 15 TN Mullins 13 TN Polly 9 TN Thomas G 6 TN Samuel G 2 TN I did find a Polly GENTRY age 18, in Mortality schedule 1860, Jackson Co.
