Good Morning, Today is Veteran's Day, Nov. 11, 2002. If anyone wants to post the name of their Gentry veterans, please feel free to do so. To the veterans on our list, THANK YOU! My 4th g-grandfather Meshack Gentry served in the Revolutionary War, with DAR records that are unverified. One battle he fought was the Battle of Eutaw Springs. His grandson Pinkney Burton Gentry (my gg-grandfather) fought for both the Blue and the Grey in the Civil War (known in my Tennessee family as "the late unpleasantness") and he did not want to acknowledge his service-he never applied for his pension or even talked about the war. My father Dale Gentry served in the Korean War-he taught at the minesweeping school at Norfolk, VA (where he met my mother, and I was born!) My brother Michael Gentry served in the Navy in the Vietnam War. Those are the family members who served in the military in my Gentry family (that I can think of off the top of my head). Hi, I uploaded a Gentry/Harris deed from Madison Co., Ky. to the Kentucky Gentry page on the web site last night. It's at the bottom of the page. http://members.tripod.com/~nanny_4/kygen.html A very nice lady who is not a list member sent it to me. Needing any help from anyone that can help. I have come to dead ends on my family lines so I am going to put them on 1 at a time and hope I can find help from others on the site. I first find William Leach 8 and his sister Rachel 10 on the 1850 census in the house of Jonathan Dees 43 born S.C.and wife Mary 42 born Ky.on this census it has both William and Rachel as born it Missouri. Next door to Jonathan is his brother Jesse Dees and his wife Ataline and children Martha L., Matterville, Daniel J.M., Sophronia, ( William later married her ) there is also a James and wife Cyntha and there childern liven 2 houses down. Also a David Dees Sr. with wife Gracy and their children live next door to Jesse. On the 1860 census William is in the home of Joshua Joiner 44 born Tenn. Polly J., 50 Ky, Melissia 20 Mo., Elijah 11 Mo., David 8 Mo., Eliza 6 Mo., William Leach 17 Mo., Margaret Jackson 7 Mo. By this time Rachel is gone married I guess as I can't find her and she would be abt. 20. On the 1870 census William Leach is married to Sophronia Dees and has a daughter Triphna Ellen, and 2 houses down in the same house is Mary Joiner 67 Ky. Mary Joiner 15 Mo. there are 3 different Dees familys liveing next to these. On the 1880 census I have I have 2 Dees family liveing in Different homes and next door is Levi Gentry 70 born S.C.with Martha A. 40 Tenn, James Sutton 15 Mo.,and 3 other Suttons. In the house next door is William Leach with wife and children and next house is Jonathan Gentry and wife Martha S. and children. I would like any help anyone can give me on William Leach and his family as this is all that I have on the 1880 census it has Williams parents born ILL. but can't find them or their names. So any and all help you can give me. I would also like any hellp anyone can give me on the Sutton and Gentry that I have put in here. Thank you so much for any and all of your help. You can e-mail me at eor@saber.net Barbara
Good Morning, I hope you will all take the time to read the article from MSNBC. Hi, In case you haven't heard, the LDS site now has the complete 1880 census online. http://www.familysearch.org Happy Hunting! So, I've made a little progress. (Thanks to the kindness of others) I've found Valentine White Gentry's grave in Stanford, KY He is buried in Buffalo Springs Cemetery, section 6E,and and someone was kind enough to take and sent me a picture of his headstone. Still trying to prove that he was my great great grandfather and was the father of Vivian Costello Gentry born about 1886 in Kentucky. The family always said he was and various descendants in the other Gentry lines have said that they remember an "Aunt Vivian" that lived in California. However, none of that is proof which I'd really like to see -- I've requested all the newspaper microfilm from the STanford newspapers for the time of Valentine's death and hope against hope that there is an obit that mentions Vivian. I have been unable to locate a will for Valentine or a birth certificate for Vivian. Any one have any ideas?????
Would like to locate Bobby Gentry.a Gentry researcher My computr crashed and I lost his address Anyone that could help me it would be apprediated Coy Hodge mhodge2@triad.rr.com

Here is a poor transcription from a Salt Lake City (Fam Hist Library) film of a Madison Co., KY deed. Christopher Harris, formerly of Louisa and Albemarle Cos., VA, m. 1st) Mary Dabney and 2) Agnes McCord. Christopher and Agnes migrated ca 1787 or prior to Madison Co., KY from Albemarle Co., VA. This deed is helpful in determining who some of the heirs were (Christopher allegedly had 17-19 children and not all appear in this deed) and which ones were deceased. It may help some of you in determining the maiden name of some of the wives of the signatories. At the beginning, punctuation has been added by this writer for legibility. I remember reading earlier that this land in Bourbon Co. had not been known to the heirs, and perhaps Samuel McMillin was the one who discovered it. Any information, y'all? For the correspondent who was inquiring about Levi Gentry, b. abt 1806 in SC, and present in the 1850 Wayne Co., MO census. Levi is also in the 1840 Wayne Co. census, and before that can be found in 1830 in St. Clair Co., Illinois. Levi is listed with a Yimri Gentry (note that Levi named one son, Zimri, undoubtedly for this man). Yimri appears to be too young to be Levi's father, but may have been an older brother or an uncle. Yimri in turn is undoubtedly one of the two Zimriah Gentrys in Washington Co., IL in 1820. How Levi ties back to SC is very difficult to determine. The fact that Robert Gentry of Edgefield District, SC (son of Hezekiah) had a son Levi suggests that the Missouri Levi was a part of Hezekiah's extended family, though it is difficult to identify any of Hezekiah's great-grandsons who were of the right age in 1810, who were not in SC also in 1820. The SC Levi had no sons of the right age so he was not the father of his namesake.

I am trying to locate information (date of birth/location, date of death/location, wife, children, parents, etc.) of Willis S. Gentry who bought several items at the estate settlement of Isham Young in 1836 Roane County, Tennessee. Isham's second wife was Nancy Harvey-Young, who I believe was the daughter of William Harvey and Lenah Gentry of Surry County, North Carolina and then Roane County, Tennessee, and I would like to discover if Willis Gentry had an attachment to Lenah's family.
