Rhonda McGehee wrote Still researching Sarah Francis Gentry b Oct 29, 1848 and d Nov 20, 1921 and buried in Greenwood Arkansas. She married John Riley McGehee and they had 7 children. Rhonda McGehee Dear Rhonda, I just wrote this to a person on the Johnston Co., NC website. Perhaps you can use this information. You will have to search for McGehee, I believe, as your lady was probably married in 1880. However, each person enumerated was asked where each of his /her parents was b orn. This may lead you to the proper jurisdiction (State). Then you can search for Gentrys in either the State where Sarah Francis Gentry 's father was born or where her mother was born. Frequently, the marriage took place in the bride's home state, but not always--nothing is sure in genealogy. This is the message: Have you tried to find this family in the online 1880 census? This census may be found on this website, and it is free: www.familysearch.org It is somewhat tricky to use. Not only did the census taker misspell the names, forenames and surnames, but also the indexers/transcribers also misspelled the names. If the proper spelling of the name does not appear, try misspelling it!!! You may also use a wild card in this way. Give the first three letters of the surname, followed by an asterisk * That should be a fun search! And check out the neighbors. They may be in-laws, cousins, uncles, etc. While on that website, check out the guides which are given there, and also the forms, etc. All kinds of genealogical goodies are there, including my favorite: The Family History Library Catalog The link to this is on the lower right. If you want to check on what the FHL holds in the way of records for Johnston Co., NC, do a place search. If you want to check on whether a family history has been written about your family, do a surname search, etc. If you want to locate the nearly 3,000 reels of film of Rev War pensions (of 1832 and beyond), however, use the author search: Veterans Administration [caps not necessary] Happy hunting! E.W.Wallace Oh, yes, Rhonda, Genty is misspelled lots of different ways.

The web page address below is part of the Library of Congress. It is a RICH source of historical (and other) information gathered during the "great depression" era in 1930s America when the WPA program hired many writers and paid them to interview and record in the subjects own words some of the history of which they had knowledge or in which they took part. Posted by Berry Spradly on the NC-SC List Re: The John Gentry of Greene Co., GA The last post did not go through as i thought. This is the site to check out. Norma, You are so right. Someone was looking for Allen Cain Gentry or maybe it was just Allen Gentry. I have a book with hundreds of Gentry's in it. running from 1510 to 2000. So I thought it would be easy to find their Allen. I spent the bigger part of a day and I still do not have all of them. I will try to get it in some order and maybe I can give them a look see on Thursday evening. Thursday is my next day off. Henri [Gentry] Surgeon Kibler.
Hey Cuzzies, When making a post, it would be very helpful to others if you included some dates or approximate dates of your ancestor. It gives others some idea of what time frame or census record to look in. This is to supplement what I posted last night. I did not include Jackson's birthdate. Jackson Greenberry Gentry was born in Aug. 1848. His family in the 1850 Census is in Bullitt County. If anyone can assist with more information I would appreciate it. Thanks, Kim
Hello: I'm looking to connect my gggrandfather David Gentry, born in Anderson, SC about 1805 with John Gentry (possible father b. 1760/1770) and possible brothers Moody Gentry, born about 1800 and Zachariah Gentry. David Gentry left SC about 1835 and moved to Perry County, Alabama where he died around 1880. Any information will be appreciated. Debbie Buxton Hollywood, Florida

Ted-I dont know abt Wm Gentry but I can give you this on Agnes Gentry and John Phillips..... This info courtesty of desc of Samuel 'Lem' Gentry... so I am only posting what was given me...I can NOT verify this info. Thank you. Bennett was the son of Edmund/Edmond Phillips and Mary Chinn. I assume he was a younger brother of my John Phillips (who married Agness Gentry, sister of James Gentry who hung out with William Smithers) John md Agnes Gentry 1799 and Edmond md 1806. Edmund Phillips Sr. was born Dec. 12, 1871 in Surry County, North Carolina. Bennett Phillips didn't have a brother John. IE: see above..she meant Jacob I think. The John that married Agnes Gentry was the brother to Edmund Sr. Edmund Jr. had a younger brother named John. This John was born somewhere near 1825 and married Hannah Cook in 1847 17 M ii. I do not think it is likely that Mary Hodges was born in VA because William Hodges was supposedly born in NC. If this is true, it is the same day that Agnes Gentry, daughter of Samuel Gentry, married John Phillips in Surry Co. NC. If all this is true, it would seem aunt and neice had a joint wedding in NC and it would be likely that Mary Hodges was born in NC. I am still on the list and still looking. I am looking for information on the Gentry Coventry in the Revolutionary War. I have been told bits and pieces and that my Gentry line goes back to St. Nicholas in England. The first name on my family tree is Jessie and then his father Rodrick. Jessie was born in 1915 Rodrick was born in the late 1800s. When and where I do not know. Anyone have these two names on their family line? Margie

Still here and hunting for any leads on my GGGrandfather, Jackson Greenberry GENTRY. He was born in Bullitt County, KY to Elisha and Matilda (Dickey) GENTRY. I am looking for proof of this connection. Is there any one out there that can make this tie for me? I know he married twice, first to a Laura ? and second to Betty Baxter. He had 2 sons with his first wife and a slew of kids with Betty. I don't have my records in front of me to name them all or give a total. He moved to TN at some point because that is where he married Betty and was in Dickson County at that time. Any help appreciated. Kim in Florida
