    3. Founders and Patriots of the Republic of Texas, by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas has the following: Nicholas Gentry ws a colonist. Resided in Washington Co., TX. B. ca 1777, East Tennessee, d. 9-27-1943 Washington Co., TX. Married Sally Browder, b. Virginia, d. ca 12-1812, Williamson Co., TN. Son George Washington Gentry, b. 11-6-1808 Williamson Co., TX, d. 1-5-1883, Comanche Co.,TX. M. 1-1-1860 Martha Jane Spratt, b. 12-28-1838, Dyersburg, Tennessee, d. 6-5-1906, Comanche, TX. Ladies also joined the Daughters of the Republic of Texas on George and Frederick. This record for Nicholas was interesting as it shows that Nicholas was the father of "this" George and that Nicholas possibly had an earlier wife. At least that is what I infer from the information below. Betty Joseph Gentry wrote: > Gentry Researchers!!! > > Can anyone help Mary with information on the Gentrys in the following > message? He immigraated to Texas in the fall of 1835, settling in Washington County. He served in the Texas Army from March 1 to June 7, 1836, participating in the Battle of San Jacinto as a private in Company H, 1st Regiment, Texas Volunteers. His wife was Rebecca Barnett, daughter of George W. Barnett. In 1856 the Gentrys moved to Hamilton County, where in 1860 Gentry was a lieutenant in charge of a detachment of minute men. 3. Howdy fellow Gentry researchers! I have found a family tree on one of the World Family Tree disks that intrigues me. My 3rd great grandfather, Allen D. Gentry, is listed as the father of John Wesley Gentry, b ca 1830. His mother is Virginia Cole. Allen D. was the son of Meshack, who was the s/o Allen A. Gentry. Does anyone know anything about John Wesley Gentry and his mother? I am trying to untangle this family-Allen D. was married to Nancy Gentry (his first cousin) but was also married to Susan Ivey (my 3rd great grandmother). Thanks for any info! 3. My GENTRY ancestors are Agnes, daughter of Samuel, who settled in Barren Co., KY, and died there in 1816. Most of his children were in Ohio Co., KY, and subsequently , Warrick Co., and Spencer Co., IN. Agnes married John PHILLIPS in Surrey Co., NC, and moved to KY and then IN. In the 1950's, I worked with a gentleman named Pleasant GENTRY in Indianapolis. I don't know much about him except that he was born and raised in KY. At that time I was not interested in genealogy, and did not pursue the GENTRY connection. We called him Ples....he was a quiet well mannered person. I would guess that he was born ca. 1925. 3. Howdy fellow Gentry researchers! I have found a Pleasant M. Gentry listed on the Illinois Civil War page, from Grayville. I really doubt that this is the Pleasant M. Gentry who was the older half brother of my ancestor Pinkney Burton Gentry, born in 1810. They shared the same father (Allen D. Gentry, son of Meshack Gentry) but different mothers-Nancy Gentry for Pleasant and Susan Ivy Gentry for Pinkney, who was born in 1844. They were both born in Monroe County TN. I know what happened to Pinkney, but where did Pleasant go? Does anyone know of Pleasant M. Gentry (either one?) I hadn't found Gentrys in IL before. Meg Gentry Bookout [email protected]

He said he was born in Halifax Co., VA. His wife, Srah Luticia Allen was born in Surry Co., VA. I find a Samuel Stokes and a Richard Allen (I THINK he was John's wife's father) in Surry Co. in 1830. 3. Darrell, I thought you might be interested to know I have the same info you have. My late husband and my children and grandchildren have descended from the same line. I don't know who did all the research for it, but I have the same information, including Nicholas and Nichloas II. It ties with other info I have. Our line proceeds through Robert, Bartlett, Robert II, Silas, William Newton, and Mary Jane Gentry who was my husband's ggrandmother, and who died only a short time before I married into the family. My husband knew her well. She, then, lived with his grandmother. Regards, Marianne M. Ritchie

    3. Had I know that this would strike this big of a nerve, I would not have posted anything. I do not research this full time, I have a life and a job and a family to support. What I have, I pass on and you can make your own decisions as to the validity of it. I tend to take things a face value unless other circumstances dictate otherwise. The person who put my genealogy together also did extensive research (I don't know if he looked in the large iron chest or not, Emma). And, no, I have not verified every aspect of the genealogy. I thought that one of the purposes of this mail forum was to do just that. I have had several corrections to my list from this forum and I appreciate them. If you disagree or have conflicting information on what I post, I would appreciate a little nicer reply in the future. I believe we are all trying to get to the same place on the information in our possession.
