    3. Hi, folks -- As of now Rootsweb has installing a SmartList hack that blocks file attachments (including VCARDS), HTML messages and enriched text postings. This note is to let you know how it works. When a subscriber sends something to a mailing list written in HTML, or with a non-plain-text attached file, the list server will send the subscribers message back to them, with a note at the bottom explaining the plain-text requirement at RootsWeb. A COPY OF THIS REJECTION MESSAGE WILL BE SENT TO ME AS WELL! If you questions please send them to me and I'll try and find the answers. This change is not currently something the listowner can turn on and off. Attachments will be blocked from every list alike. So I guess we will have to live with them, and see how it works. Joe Gentry List Owner I just sent this in HTML format and got it back. So use plain text format on all your messages they mean business.

    3. Does any one have information on the Hanging Dog Cemetery? May be in Tn. Several months ago I copied a list of people buried there from one of the list. There were several GENTRY'S buried there. I loaned my copy to a friend who let his daughter have them to read. She moved to La. and the copies got lost. I can't remember which list they were on. Thanks, Kathleen

    1. Sorting GENTRY posts
    2. Gary Flesher
    3. Hi, This may be old news to most, but I am still learning about this little machine. I am saving all GENTRY posts in a GENTRY file. (Don't ask me how to set up files, my husband did it for me). I just went to edit, and sorted by subject, alphabetically. Now if you and others have posted messages, with subject, say, "Nicholas I", all of them are together in that mailbox file. If we will all remember this when we post messages, to think ahead when we write our subject, those of us who do this can refer back to every post with that subject matter more easily. No more searching so much. Just wanted to share that with you. ....Virginia *************************************** * Genealogy, Surnames, Pictures * * Missing Children, Collectables, * * and other links. * * http://www.public.usit.net/gflesher * * WEB PAGE DESIGN * ***************************************

To view them: Use your browser to go to http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl and type in the name of the list. Hit the "Submit" button (or simply hit your "enter" key). Enter the names or other keywords and select the year. Hit the "Search" button. You will get a list of the messages in that year that contained the keywords you specified. Vickie Elam White

    1. GENTRY-COOPER, Carroll Co MO book
    2. Gary Flesher
    3. Here is next post about GENTRY connnection in Carroll Co MO book, 1880....Virginia page 629, Carroll Co MO, county history book, 1880 REV.ALFRED T. COOPER was born February 21, 1816, in Hancock county Georgia. He is a son of John and Sarah COOPER,, natives of Virginia. In 1836 he moved with his mother to Carroll County, Missouri. Alfred's chances for attending schools were few and he may be justly considered a self-educated man. He was married June 31, 1836, to Miss Micah GENTRY, daughter of Robert and Guly GENTRY, natives of Kentucky. Mr. COOPER's first marriage was blessed with ten children, nine of whom are living: John W., Guly A., Francis M., Sarah J., deceased; Robert G., Alfred T., Reuben B., Abbott H., Micah E. and Parthenia S. Mrs. COOPER died in July 1873, after an illness of phthisic, for many years. Mr. COOPER prepared himself for the ministry, by studying at the plow and by the light made by shellbark of hickory. He entered the ministry in 1846, and preached his first sermon at Stokes Mound. He was married the second time, August 29, 1875, to Mrs. Laura BRADEN, relict of Jeremiah BRADEN, and daughter of John and Hannah HARTHCOTT, natives of Virginia. She was the mother of eight children when Mr. COOPER married her: Elizabeth F., George W., America, Malinda, Harriet E., Walter F., Charles H. and Emily A. Mr COOPER owns seventy acres of land on which is a nice little home. It is located on section 2 of Leslie township. Mr. COOPER is a Cumberland Presbyterian, and is also a member of the Masonic Fraternity. END ***************************************************************************** I have a lot of later census records of most of Alfred's children, including my g-grandmother, Micah COOPER, who married back into her Mother's family, the GENTRYs. Alfred spent most of his life in Carroll Co., and is buried beside his daughter, Parthenia S. MALLATT, wife of John T, in Oak Forest Cemetery, Douglas Co, about 5 miles from Norwood, Wright Co MO. Alfred died in 1900. I spent several days in Carroll Co, and interviewed two different COOPER descendants, neither seemed to think they were connected to Alfred's family. I have not found even one descendant of this man, except for daughter Micah's, to this day. She had married John W GENTRY, grandson of Benjah, who was brother to her grandfather, Robert GENTRY. She was widowed with several children, then married George W MILLER, location unknown. They were in Craighead Co AR by 1900. They had no children together. She is buried at Nettleton cemetery, Craighead Co, near Jonesboro. *************************************** * Genealogy, Surnames, Pictures * * Missing Children, Collectables, * * and other links. * * http://www.public.usit.net/gflesher * * WEB PAGE DESIGN * ***************************************

    2. Gary Flesher
    3. I am posting some GENTRY information I copied from a book about Carroll Co MO, published about 1880. My GENTRY line came from this area. Micah "Mickey" Elvira GENTRY, daughter of Robert and Julia SIMPSON, married A.T. COOPER. Combs township: Robert GENTRY located on Section 4 about 1833. A.T COOPER located 1829. From Uncle Stephen HANCOCK we gather the facts that the first marriage was that of Alfred T. COOPER and Miss Mickie GENTRY, by James WALDEN, justice of the peace. The first birth was that of Minnie GENTRY in 1838 to Sampson and Sallie GENTRY. The first death that of Robert GENTRY was during the year 1835, the body having been taken to Adkins grave yard in Wakenda township for interment. Fairield township: Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian, this denomination was organized in 1860 and re organized Jan 1, 1873. For the present the services are held in Burr Oak school house on section 29, the congregation not yet having built a house of worship. Rev. A.T.(Alfred Thomas) COOPER, one of those serving as minister, thus far.
