As another submitter mentioned, I also have been 'lurking' for a while and need to get involved. I just recently discovered my Gentry roots, last week of Sept '98 to be exact, and would like to know more plus clear up some confusion on what I do know. Here's what I THINK I know: -Nathaniel HAGGARD (21 Nov, 1723 VA-21 Aug, 1806 Clark CO, KY) m bef 1745 Elizabeth GENTRY (14 Aug, 1731 VA-28 Jul, 1820 Clark CO, KY) -dau of Nicholas GENTRY (Albermarle CO, VA-ca 1777) m ?? -son of Nicholas GENTRY (1680 VA-?) m ?? -son of Nicholas GENTRY (1655-1710) m ca 1684 Lucy CORNELIUS (1660/1674-?) Nathaniel H-son of James HAGGARD (ca 1678 Eng-VA?) m 1698/1722 VA? Elizabeth GENTRY (26 Aug, 1687 VA-VA?) -dau of Nicholas GENTRY and Lucy CORNELIUS (per above) I understand that a son of Nathaniel and ELizabeth, James HAGGARD, also married Elizabeth GENTRY & a daughter, Jane, m David GENTRY. I am descended from Bartlett HAGGARD, son of Nathaniel & Elizabeth, proven by will records in Clark CO, KY. Can anyone straighten me out on some of this? And/or correct or prove? And/or elaborate? And/or lead me towards new info? I suspect I'm confused over the number of Nicholases and Elizabeths. (Lots of and/ors and pleases for a first message, huh?) Thanks. Happy Hunting to you all. Regarding the question of which James Gentry this might be: James Sr. died in 1840, since the sale of the land was dated 28 July 1848 it was most likely James (Jr.) and his wife Elizabeth Montgomery. I'm new to the list, I hope you don't mind me jumping right in. Cathie Meek

Hi cousin Pat, nice to hear from another Watson Gentry and Theodosia Poindexter descendent.. they were my gr.gr.gr.gr.gr.grandparents.. their son Joseph was my ancestor.. his wife was a Spraggin..their daughter was Tabitha Gentry who married Pleasant G. Hardin.. Joseph stayed behind in Rockingham Co. N.C. and did not come to TN. to the best of my knowledge. Tabitha/Pleasant came to Tn with her grandfather Watson and others of that family.. I was again in marshall/Maury co. this past May and was able to revisit the graves of my Tabitha and Pleasant.. I have not worked these lines in several years .. I am aware that there is no proof as to who the parents of Watson are.. somewhere around here I have some information that gives some names but those names arein question. as to the poindexter Family: I have worked from the Immigrant George on down, and from Theodosia back up, but have not been abel to make a good connection.. I seem to remember her father was a David.. I see the name MERIDITH in your background.. Meridith Poindexter Gentry was another son of Watson and Theodosia.. he was well known in TN. politics.. there has been a lot written about him.. like I say, nice to meet another cousin.. Cal. in Atlanta..

Hi All, I am researching my 4th great-grandmother, Catherine (Katie) GENTRY. She married Andrew J. MCCOOL, in 1825. I have seen two dates with June 29th being the most prevalent (July 3 is the other). I have also seen two places; Montgomery County, AL is most likely but Floyd County, GA has been mentioned. Katie is believed to have died in 1850 in Fayette County, AL, possibly while delivering Elizabeth Caroline, their 12th child. The MCCOOL family moved to Saline County, AR in 1857/8. Her date of birth is unknown. She is assumed to have been born in SC. Andrew MCCOOL was the son (after Joseph and before Benjamin) of James MCCOOL. He was born in SC and appears on the Fayette County, AL census (1830) as being 15 to 20 years old. Most research mentions that he was born in 1805. There were several GENTRY families listed in the 1790 - 1830 census indexes for Spartanburg County, SC. I believe that Katie could have been the daughter of Allen, Jeremiah (Jerrey), Nicholas, or Reuben. I assume that the GENTRY and MCCOOL families were close and migrated together from SC to AL between 1820 and 1825. Katie and Andrew could have been married in-route in GA? Also, at least one other MCCOOL-GENTRY marriage (older siblings) occurred. Please pass along any information, tips, rumors, research suggestions, or miscellany about Katie GENTRY and her family, descendents, or lineage. Thank you, Charles McCool 1853 Post Oak Trail Reston, VA 20191-5218
Hi. Does anyone have information on a Martha F. GENTRY of Itawamba Co, MS, b. 8 Jul 1853, d. 25 Jan 1939, married to William Henry "Coonie" WOULDRIDGE? That's all the definite info I have on her. There are 2 Martha Gentry's that could be her appearing in the census records, though the census lists only approximate birthdates for both entries. The most probable match was the daughter of Young GENTRY (b. abt 1798) and Rebecca GILLY (b. abt 1815). Young Gentry's parents were Cain GENTRY and Liddy YOUNGBLOOD. Does anyone have any info on my Martha, and can anyone confirm whether or not my Martha was the daughter of Young Gentry and Rebecca Gilly? Respectfully, Kimberly Spencer Brown

Looking for any information about this family: J. R. Gentry and family found in 1850 census, Weakley County, Tennessee. Jonathan (J. R.) was born about 1804 in Georgia; Sarah about 1810 in Virginia. I have names of 9 children, all born in Tennessee: Parthena , abt 1830; Samuel P., abt 1835; William, abt 1838; John about 1839; Gilbert L. abt 1841; Emily A. 1843; Sophronia abt 1846; N. Watson abt 1848; and Robert E. abt. 1850. There were supposed to be 3 other children who didn't surive long. By 1860, the family was in Greene County, northeast Arkansas, where they remained. Jonathan died in 1884 (abt 80 years old) and Sarah died sometime after 1891 (81+ years old), so they were apparently of 'hardy stock.' There are some Gentrys mentioned in this post from the NCNR list.
