Can anyone tell me that if my gggg-grandmother applied for WI land thru the BofLM, would that mean that it could possibly be for free land as a Civil War Widow. I have always thought my gggg-grandfather was killed in the CW, but the sign date is 1859--which makes that improbable. Does anyone know if that is the purpose of the Bof LM. This was for 40 acres.
