Can anyone tell me that if my gggg-grandmother ONSTINE applied for WI land thru the B of LM, would that mean that it could possibly be for free land as a Civil War Widow? I have always thought my gggg-grandfather was killed in the CW, but the signature date is 1859--which makes that impossible. Does anyone know if that is the purpose of land issued by the B of LM? This was for only 40 acres too. [email protected]
