I just received a long awaited packet of info from NARA about my grgrandfathers pension for service in the Civil War. Lots of interest but still not one mention of his parent's names. I've done everything I know but I can't get their names. Any suggestions? I've only been at this a few months and I'm really stuck! He was George Downey, the family was Protestant Irish, and he was born February 7, 1843. I have reason to think the family may have moved to Kane Co., Illinois, when he was a boy.He also lived in Appleton WI and in Tekonsha MI. He died in Wasco, Kane Co., Illinois in 1920.His wife was Mary Anne Whitney, descended from the John Whitney line of WaterTown Mass. Can anyone connect or advise?
