I had to go find it! There is much more information than I have posted here. I recommend that those who are searching for records take a look at the site. http://www.nara.gov/regional/nprcinfo.html =========================== The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) is part of NARA's regional records services facilities. The NPRC was established in 1966 when the St. Louis Federal Records Center and the Military Personnel Records Center merged. * * * On July 12, 1973, a disastrous fire on the sixth floor at 9700 Page Avenue destroyed nearly all of the records pertaining to persons discharged from the Army before 1960 and about two-thirds of the records pertaining to persons discharged from the Air Force before 1964. Alternate sources are used to resolve reference problems caused by the fire. On June 5, 1967, the Freedom of Information Act was enacted into law to prevent the unwarranted invasion of personal privacy. This law and the Privacy Act of 1974, as well as directives from the Department of Defense and other federal agencies, govern the release of information from records in the physical custody of the National Personnel Records Center. * * *
