Dear George and List readers... One of the neat features that I really enjoy as a resource is the following address: http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html The USGS maintains this database of all the places in our country and some of their alternate names. So if you had Johnson Township back in the early 1800's it might now be Grant City or something like that. So I have used this service, and it will lead you to the townships. Remember though, that it shows what the place is called and where it is located NOW. You might need to check other sources to find out where it was at the time you are looking for. So far it has really worked well for me. --- Terry This E-Mail from Terry D.
