I noticed that some people are asking questions about surnames or geographic areas. Have you ever tried the mail list from rootsweb that are for geographic areas? I belong to several and while some are not as active as others you have people who are asking questions about that state or county in a state or groups of counties such as the Kentuckiana List and people who live in that area who know the area and are able to give advice or help. There is also a biography program in some states that you can subscribe to. Kentucky, I know, has a genealogy tips list for that area. You can't send queries to the biography or tip mail list but there is valuable information. Toni Gorman rockall@aol.com
