    1. Re: Catholic Priests & Nuns
    2. Hello Tipsters, It is beneficial if you know which order with which the priest was associated (Franciscan, Dominican, Jesuit, etc.). If not, the best bet is to contact the Diocese or Archdiocese where he had served. In the USA, MOST (not all) parish priests are from the Dominican order (Order of St. Dominick) or the Jesuits. If you DO know the "order" he studied for, contact the local RC parish & ask where the main "headquarters" (can't think of the proper term for it right now) for that order is located---they should be able to help. Keep in mind that there are priests, brothers & monks in the RC Church---so you may have to do a bit of digging. The same holds true for nuns---there are many different orders (Franciscan, Dominicans, Felicians, Carmalites, Sisters of Mercy, etc.). Their "headquarters" are known as the "Mother House". (The Dominican's is in Newburgh, NY; the Felician's is in Lodi, NJ.) It used to be rather easy to know which order a nun belonged to by the habit she wore---today that isn't so---at least for most of the orders. Many wear "street clothes" rather than a habit & now, most use their given names instead of changing their names. Hope that is a bit of a help to you folks. Sally Huntley
