When assigning "generation" numbers to your ancestors who immigrate to America, which is correct in the following situation. Aaron COOKE bapt 20 Mar 1613/14 Bridport Devon England son of Aaron and Elizabeth (CHARDE) COOKE. After her husband's death in England Elizabeth (CHARDE) COOKE married Thomas FORD and the FORD family immigrates along with Aaron (COOKE) and other family members. Should Aaron COOKE be shown as first or second generation when preparing a "ranked" family history? I have seen this particular case covered both ways - each was done by respected genealogists. If the answer is Aaron COOKE is assigned first generation, WHY? Would it make a difference, if Elizabeth (CHARDE)(COOKE) FORD immigrated eralier than her son - and likewise, would it make a difference if she immigrated later than her son? Thanks Bob
