Title of item: Family Bible-1873 with geneology to 1660 Seller: dana.winston@gsc.gte.com Starts: 06/06/98 17:32:34 PDT Ends: 06/13/98 17:32:34 PDT Price: Starts at $50.00 To bid the item, go to: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=16589773 Item Description: A very special piece of history and spiritual sentiment. A magnificant family bible dated 1873. This 12 lb thick leather bound treasure was printed by the Hubbard Bros. of Philadelphia. It is called a Complete Domestic Bible, translated out of the original tongues. The inset page reads, "a profusely illustrated pronouncing dictionary of the bible, a history of the books of the bible,a history of all religious sects, biographies of eminent bible characters, a history of the coins of the bible, and many other valuable aids and elegant embellishments." The cover is brown leather covering wood(built to last an eternity) and the spine reads Holy Bible. There are some scratches and wear spots on the leather covers. Strictly surface wear with no rips or breaks. However this protective covering has done it's job very well! The interior of this 125 year old bible is Excellent +. I should note that the leather cover has some Gothic designs engraved. There appears the name Marion in g! old in the center of the front cover. This is where it gets intriguing! It appears that this bible may have been given as a gift by a Aunt Affie Goodrich to Mrs. William M. Hanscom. Throughout the bible it is apparent that this family tome was that of the Hanscom's of Sheffield and Johnson Vermont. The bible has sections for family members to enter geneological information. On the beautifully colored matrimony form, someone has neatly entered the marriage of George Hanscom and Willimena Hill, in 1899. On another family record within the bible, we see more entries for the Hanscom clan from 1871 to 1964. On a separate form from the bible, there is a standalone family tree or geneology of the Falsom and Bean families dating back to 1660, Exeter, N.H.. Sometime in the early 1800's, a Hanscom married in and the geneology provides a wonderful record of the births and deaths and of their residence while alive. This is a very special record that I could auction as a separate lot bu! t I feel that it would be wrong to break up this history, waiting to b e told. I purchased this bible from the Sharon, Mass. Historical Society. It is the genuine article. I will not place a reserve but will modestly begin the bidding at $50.00. A truly wonderful item that could someday be an heirloom for your family. High bidder pays S/H/I. Visit eBay, the world's largest personal trading community at http://www.ebay.com
