Hi Anna: I come up with the same date as you do. Begin involved in a lot of funerals with the American Legion, one of the things we have to do as Chaplain is figure the age. Listed is an example of how we determine the age Died 1998 07 04 Born 1924 01 14 Age 74 05 20+1 translates to 74 years, 5 months and 21 days old. The first column obviously represents the year born and died, the middle column represents the month, and the last column represents the days. In my example you obvoiusly cannot take 14 days from 04 days, so then you move to the months column and change the 07 months to 06 months. Since we work on 30 days per month, you then add 30 to the 04 which gives you 44 days. Since the individual was living the day he died, you then add 1 to the days column. By the way, this is the same formula the military uses to determine the number of days service a person served. Hope this helps.
