I too know the feeling. For over 30 years I have been researching most of my lines of my pedigree, finding little evidence that anyone else is researching the same line on most branches. Then in an effort to contact other descendents of my paternal immigrant ancestor, I posted my files online. Subsequent to that an individual with a remote relationship from an entirely different line, downloaded my entire file to his files, and resubmitted everything as his own, not just one time, but two times. So, my files are listed once and his resubmission of them twice. When I wrote to him to inquire regarding it, he had already blocked any email from me to him. When I wrote the list managers, they said we should settle it between ourselves. Poor on their part in my estimation. I have instructed them to withdraw my files. I will submit my research in the various counties where it may do real descendents some good. On the other side of the coin, there is a gentleman who has been looking up records for one of my husband's families, and has been sending them right along with no thought for himself. Help far above and beyond "the call of duty". I would have taken a long time to know the ins and outs that he does, and his kindness will be repaid. I find after all that I can do some research for him. And beyond that I have a new friend. So, there are truly both types of persons out there. Frankly, if it helps me to further the original research on my line, I guess I would rather take my chances. After all the fellow who lifted my entire files, has only what I submitted. He has none of the subsequent original research, nor does he have the documentation that I have in abundant supply. He has a distinct lack of integrity, and I truly believe that "time wounds all heels". Charlene Calvert Pinkowski charpink@gte.net York, PA, USA
