I am overwhelmed by the wonderful response I have had to my post on Gen Tips list. I really appreciate all that responded. I will try to give you all all the information that I have. I know that it is not much and some of it is suspect. I will try to let you know where and how I know these things. and if they are suspect will label those things too. Lucretia ??? (from Canada according to her land papers) m. Squire Brown presumably in NY. ( This is not for certain and some of my cousins challenge it. They don't have a better suggestion. They just are not sure that Squire Brown is the one she married. I think it is Squire myself.) Her first three children state on the census of Tx. that they were born in NY. The fourth states that she was born in Ohio.. The fifth in La. and the last in Tx. Lucretia applied for a Mexican land grant as a widow in 1835 which she was granted as head of house. She lived in San Augustine Co. Tex at that time. I have been unable to find her on any record after that time. The land grant was patented in 1841. I assume she was still living at that time. I have looked at marriages, cemetery records, census records and church and Bible records that I could find for all the counties surrounding Jasper Co. Tx. (That is where her land was. She was listed in a book called The First Citizens of Jasper Co. Tx. But she was not on the Jasper census. I assume she either married (she was 55 in 1835 ) or that she died. Her first daughter was named Lucretia as well. She married Jesse E. Cole in 1837 and had 6 children. She was last seen on the 1850 census of Tx. in Houston Co. Jesse sells his land in Houston Co. ( Assume he sold it. Have not gone to Houston Co as yet to track it.. That trip is planned asap.) Jesse moves to Angelina Co. Tx. and remarries and then goes to Bell Co with his new wife. Moves again to Hamilton Co. and lives there until his death in 1875. He was reportedly shot by rustlers in Comanche Co. Tx.. and is buried in that Co. Jesse had another family in Hamilton Co. some of which are still there. Lucretia and Squire Brown's children: Squire b. abt 1808 Hiram b. abt 1813 m. Katherine Blackburn abt 1832 (1st child Lucretia b. abt 1833) Lucretia b. abt 1814 Eliza Ann b. abt 1818 Harriet b. abt 1822 William Hiram b. abt. 1824 Lucretia Brown and Jesse Cole's children: Harriet b. abt 1838 Sarah Jane b. abt 1840 Sam H b. abt 1847 Anna b. abt 1848 Jessie Thomas (Bob) b. abt 1850 or 1854 (census doesn't agree with death record) Adeline b. abt 1853 ANY and ALL help will be deeply appreciated.
