This is what i think is happeneing here. The individual that posted the message soliciting your business is subscribed to the Ancestry data base so that they can access the information in that database and then charge you for looking it up--which, in some parts of that database, you can get the same info free. I really wonder what Ancestry.com would have to say about a "professional" genealogist taking info from their database and reselling it to you. Sounds like a copyright issue to me ?! -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: Re: [GEN~TIPS] Salt Lake City Genealogy Service] Date: Mon, 24 Dec 2001 14:49:13 -0800 From: "Lynette Litfin" <lynette@denmarkwa.net.au> To: <unicorn@noxnix.com> References: <3C276010.BAA3DC72@noxnix.com> Has anyone noticed it is connected to our friends, Ancestry.com. While you were close, IMHO you didn't grab the magic ring this go around. Had you visited the web page listed you would have read that they are in Salt Lake City and have access to the LDS records and archives. > I really wonder what Ancestry.com would have to > say about a "professional" genealogist taking info from their database > and reselling it to you. Probably not much -- but their attorneys might have a lot to say. > Sounds like a copyright issue to me ?! Let's not bring that copyright stuff to this list! It has already worn out it's welcome on other admin lists!! Ron
I will do minimum amounts of lookups for NO charge to beginning researchers. I work at the University Library in Provo as a volunteer, and also have access to all the records of SLC FHC which is north of us 30 miles. This is as time permits. Our job is to teach how to access the programs and use them and also to point people in the right direction for their own research. My Christmas gift to the list. Just don't expect instantaneous action. I'm getting slower as I get older but have researched for over 40 years in the USA and I know how to get someone to poiint you to the right direction in foreign lands. Helene
