    3. I live in Virginia on the other side of Washington, DC, and I have no reason to believe that Washington National Cemetery is a "national" cemetery. I believe it is a private cemetery. Interment only lists the following: Washington National Cemetery Suitland, Prince George's County, Maryland This is not a complete listing of burials! The records below were provided by contributors to Cemetery Records Online. Total records = 3. Contributor's Index: [WF] William M. Fleet [wmfleet@cvn.net] [WK] Wendy Kelly [wendy.kelly@clcx.com] Fleet, Charles Bruin, b. 15 May 1901 d. 15 Apr 1965. s/o Charles Wesley & Elizabeth Jane Gaines Fleet, [WF] Fleet, Frances Elenor Henderson, b. 07 Jan 1912, d. 14 Sep 1978, w/o Charles Bruin Fleet, d/o Hezikiah Karl & Virginia M Nalls Henderson, m. 19 Aug 1933, [WF] Kelly, Davis, b. 1913, d. 1951, husband of Pauline Kelly, [WK] I am researching in Chicago and Bohemian National Cemetery is also not a "national" cemetery. National cemeteries are listed at http://www.cem.va.gov/ and Washington National Cemetery is not among them. Elaine _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Any way it is at the following URL: http://www.cem.va.gov/ I found this site through: http://www.interment.net/Default.htm There is a list for the national cemetery in our area, The Marietta National Cemetery: http://www.interment.net/data/us/ga/cobb/marienat/index.htm These might help you find the answer to your question. Good luck. Carolyn Caplinger wrote: > I know I have seen some databases online for some national cemeteries and I > thought I had them in my favorites. 1. Re: [GEN~TIPS] GedCom files
    2. MScheffler
    3. Many people do not send sources and notes with submitted gedcoms. I personally leave out the notes but share them with others upon request. Most programs have options of what to send to a gedcom file. I think sharing sources is essential to good research. Since we should always check out material before we use it, this aids others, and is the reason I share in the first place. Some people think they will get more responses if they do not supply sources. Personally I rarely look at the websites or gedcoms of others because most do not contain sources and I have no idea where the information came from. My soapbox -- I feel it is important to good scholarship to share sources, particularly since we all make mistakes, and different sources carry different likely weights of accuracy. If the source simply says "Aunt Mary" or LDS source, you at least know you need to do substantially more work. If the listed source is a vital record, or census, you may give that information more weight and can more easily verify it yourself. If course, one should check out all they use since even the most careful people make mistakes. Obviously I intend to leave out the details for living people, although I tend to leave in names. There are programs that assist us in "cleaning" a database before submitting it to an internet database. I believe the Ancestry site has references (at least did in the past) to some of these programs. I do think that Ancestry has recently begun filtering out some details of living people that people left in. Margaret Scheffler ----- Original Message ----- From: <Jawcwarner@aol.com> > For the first time I have downloaded another's genealogy file being that the person who put it out on the web has obvious ties to me. What about the sources and notes? Did the person who put this GedCom out not put into their file any of their sources or write any special notes? 1. [GEN~TIPS] Civil War Burial
    2. Hello Listers, This may not be the list to ask this, but I don't have any idea where to look. I have a great uncle, John Franklin Lowe, whom I finally located. He had joined the Union Army in Rush Co., Indiana. He died at Germantown, Shelby Co., TN, near Memphis of Typhoid Fever 7 Jul 1862. I have his mother's pension papers. However, I would like to know where he was buried. I doubt whether they shipped bodies home then. I looked through a number of Civil War cemetery books for Tennessee with no luck. Would they just bury them in a field where they died, is there someplace it could check? I don't want to send for his military record he was only in a short time before dying. The pension gave me much information, except for his age and where he was buried. I did get the place and date of his father and mother's death that I did not have before. I know Illinois has Civil War soldiers listed, but have not found them in Indiana. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions someone may have and share with me. 3. Jan, When you have the Tree open and ready to print --go to the right hand side and click on the 3 A's this is where you can make your font a smaller size and sometimes using a different style font will also reduce it so it fit on one page. It will makes a difference as to how many generations you are trying to print off. You can use the Tree Format like collapsed or squished to make it fit also. Try experimenting with the different options on the right - hand side and see if it will work for you.
