    1. [GEN~TIPS] Virginia Bledsoe and Albert Harrison
    2. Albert Harrison was to have been a Congressman from MO for 20 years. Harrisonville was to have been named for him (according to my notes). Is there anyone out there that can help me get information on this couple. My notes say they were married at Mt Sterling KY 1825 and that she died 1839. I don't have their dates/places of birth or death or if they had any children. Would appreciate any help I can get. 1. [GEN~TIPS] Problem replying too messages on Internet
    2. Hello , I hope someone will be able to help me. I have been with AOL for years and have many contacts in a number of countries. I do not want to change my provider as so many have my address. However, I cannot reply to any Internet sites such as GenWeb. My AOL address is automatically put on the e-mail; and when I submit it, it is blocked. One AOL tech told me that AOL does not want their mail sent from an Internet site, another said that was not true. However, I still cannot send. Sometimes when I click submit, four letters are inserted in the e-mail address and it is blocked.] I have copied their addresses and tried to send from here, it goes out, but I have never had a reply. I have written to the head of GenWeb and to four different people that are in charge of different counties, but still have not got any replies. So I don't know if they are getting my e-mails. I have recently got a Hotmail address to use, but cannot remove the AOL address that automatically is put on as my return address. Is there someplace that I can contact to change my e-mail addresses on the Internet. This is very frustrating. Thanks for any help. Jean Suman

    1. [GEN~TIPS] Re: Once removed
    2. My understanding of the "nth" cousin "so many times" removed is that the "nth" refers to how far back the common ancestor is, and the "so many times" refers to the generation. So the child of my first cousin is my first cousin once removed, because s/he is not the same generation as I (the common ancestor is my grandparent). But my first cousin's child and my child are 2nd cousins. I have a wonderful diagram I made to explain this, but have yet to scan it and put it anywhere. Someday... Alice J. Ramsay Lombard, IL USA

    1. [GEN~TIPS] Re: Third Cousin Once Removed
    2. My understanding is the "removed" refers to a generation difference. Your third cousin would be in your generation. Your "third cousin once removed" would be your third cousin's child -- one generation away. Your "third cousin twice removed" would be your third cousin's grandchild -- two generations away from yours. 2. Virginia Murphree
    3. Dear Celia, Remember, I don't know anything about your research, but jumping from TN straight to Scotland or England sounds incredibly vague to me. Have you exhausted all the other avenues first, such as following George Greenberry Mckenzie's collateral lines and checking as much about the location's you know he lived in before crossing the ocean? I just heard these points pointed out in a recent seminar and it made sense to me. 1. [GEN~TIPS] Relationship "Once Removed"
    2. Jan Hood
    3. Could some nice person please tell me what exactly "once removed" means. I have family tree maker and I did the relationship of a cousin of mine with me and it came up, "3rd cousin once removed". I don't know if you need this information or not, but I will give it to you, just in case. My g-grandmother Adelia had a brother James. My cousin is from James. James had Thomas. Thomas had Marshall and Marshall had Donald (my 3rd cousin). My g-grandmother had Katie. Katie had Mildred and Mildred had me. Where does the "once removed" come in? Thank you so much. This is a great list. Jan mailto:hood@shentel.net

    1. [GEN~TIPS] The surname Greenberry
    2. I have spent a great deal of time trying to find the background of George Greenberry Mckenzie of VA and TN( circa 1760-1830). When I was in Scotland last summer the McKenzie Clan genealogist told me that Greenberry is a surname in Scotland and to pursue that. Someone else told me it me it is an English name. That seems to mean looking toward the Scottish lowlands. Does anyone have any information on the surname Greenberry? Also, I finally called up the Family History webpage( about Greenberry) and I know some of the information to be incorrect. Others have told me that the policy of the Mormon Church is to accept anything proviced but they do not check it. It os lovely to have the service, but watch out for accuracy. Celia in MD

    2. Jan Hood
    3. Everytime I post a message on General Tips, I get the following 'unrecognized recipient' message. Does anyone know why this is happening. I do not know this person 'alice garcia', now is she in my address book. It just happens whenever I post a message on General Tips. Any advice on how to avoid this from happening? Thanks so much. Jan in Va This is what I get back each time I post: You recently sent a message to alice.garcia@dol.net which could not be delivered. There is no person with this name at dol.net. Typically, this is the result of a slight misspelling or the omission of a period between the first and last names. Your message was discarded since there is no mail clerk at this TSX-Online site designated for manual routing duties.
