You need to know which state before you can ask for census call numbers for the off-year censuses. Then go into the computer for the state, then census, then look for the years you're interested in. Not all states have the off- year censuses, many stopped once they got statehood. Karen
Folks, I wouldn't normally make a request like this to the Tippers, but it is very important to me and I can't find anyone on any of the volunteer lists who can do this. I have recently learned that there is a collection at the Hoskins Library at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville called "Swiss Colonies in Tennessee and Kentucky Collection," which exists only in manuscript form and is not available for interlibrary loan. My primary surname ancestors lived in the Swiss Colony in Franklin County, which is one of the colonies included in the collection. A trip to Tennessee is out of the question for me right now (I live in South Dakota). I am willing to compensate for time and effort as well as copying and mailing expenses. Anyone in the Knoxville area, PLEASE contact me. Beth (BJazzie@aol.com)

It will list the needed call numbers. Beverlee
Hi, to the best of my knowledge the off-year (as in off 10-yr) census' are done at a state level, definitely in NY, and periodically in the Dakota's as well. Suz
I found my grandparents on the 1920 census. On the list,it listed one of my uncles worked as a lineman and a telegrapher. Is there a place where I can get more information about this. Would appreciate any help I can get. Does anyone know the number for these census' for the Family History Center. When I mentioned these years, the woman kinda looked at me funny. So if anyone that goes to the FHC, can you get me the microfilm or fiche number so that I can order it. Does anyone know if there will be a genealogy seminar in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas? I really would like to attend one to see what they are all about. Hi Marcia, I just wanted to send you a quick note to tell you that I know exactly what you are going through. When I first started doing Gen. online, I was Kelly Green and knew nothing of "Cyberstalkers". I sent a response to a request and was immediately jumped upon by someone known as "LarArabia". He/She, too sent me horrible msgs. and threatened to have me removed from the net, "ya-da, ya-da, ya-da" as they say. I could not get my server to do anything about it---and, believe me they do have ways of stopping this sort of thing---so I sent my msg. to the Abuse Board. And, I must apologize for not sending you the address, but when my computer crashed a while back, I lost the address and haven't replaced it. Perhaps someone on the list has it. Each time you receive a msg, send it to the board. They will track down who this person is and have them removed from the net. They can also talk to your server and prevent that person from being able to rejoin the server under a different name. One more step I did was to change my signature and email address. I really dreaded changing it because of all the people I had contact with, and the lists I was on at the time, but it really turned out to be relatively easy. I spent about 30 minutes unsubscribing and resubing under the new address and sent a blanket msg. to the people I wanted to hear from, giving them my new address. It's really much easier than you would think. The last step I did was use an address that did not contain my real name or gave any indication where I was from. My previous server had the name of my town in its address so I changed from that server. I give my name and where I am to very few people now. In talking to others, (and, BTW I am a psychologist) and drawing from my own education and experience, I decided that a "Cyberstalker" is truly a sick person who has a large measure of control over their victims---not to mention making them start looking under their beds at night! It is this control, through fear, which feeds their souls and keep them going. You must decide for yourself if you wish to be the victim or the victor. When we take steps to protect ourselves, we are the victor and we are the one in control. Just as we were able to put aside our fears of the "bogey man" which scared us as children, we can gain control over these "Cyberbogies". Good luck to you, and carry a flashlight! LCranston
This is the gang, originally I believe called HALPERTS, that the USPS has been after for years - with cease and desist orders. At one time they were operating out of England. The GEN societies, have been warning about them for decades. Prior to the Internet, with now the availability of online phone books for everyone; they may have kinda served a purpose. Now I've received from "The GM Card" - "A special announcement for GM Master Card (R) Cardmembers: A remarkable new book is about to be published and you Xyz Smith, are in it!". There's a strong implication here for those who have a tendency to give "too much too soon" on their e-mails. Do NOT include your snail mail address (unless its an anonymous post office box) &/or phone number with the first inquiry you shoot out. Most of us are nice, normal, friendly folks, but there are a few kooks hiding in the bushes. Better to discuss those gone before, post what is being sought, and then get a little bit acquainted. I've seen a few on the lists post their addresses with their queries. Doesn't seem like a good idea to me, for just the reason described. Karen

Thank you, But I want you to know that this is in NO way a person from this list, or any other genealogy type of setting. What I did was send a letter of introduction and short query to people I found BUSSELL e-mail address' on in the Yahoo e-mail search. I did not intend to harass or 'spam' as she called it. Thank you all for the support, but PLEASE write to me private, as I do not want to clog this list with this mess . Suffice it to say, I believe I have encountered a truly insane person, as she continues yet tonight. Including writing to MY server demanding my service be discontinued! I will , in the AM be on the phone. again, Please, let's not put this on the list. thanks marcia -----Original Message----- From: Wayland/Ginger Weeks <waygin@m6.sprynet.com> To: GenTips-L@rootsweb.com <GenTips-L@rootsweb.com>; 'marcia collins' <mcollins@sfths.sft434.k12.ks.us> Date: Sunday, June 07, 1998 3:53 PM Subject: RE: Shooting Queries into the net nightware! Whoops....I forgot to add that any items I send from eBay are not my auction items. I don't know who owns the product nor do I make any sort of profit. I'm only occassionally posting these because I think many of us would love to find that old lost family Bible out there somewhere. I saw this item for sale at eBay and thought that some of you might be interested. WHY couldn't it have my CARRINGTON line!!! Title of item: Family Bible-1873 with geneology to 1660 Seller: dana.winston@gsc.gte.com Starts: 06/06/98 17:32:34 PDT Ends: 06/13/98 17:32:34 PDT Price: Starts at $50.00 To bid the item, go to: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=16589773 Item Description: A very special piece of history and spiritual sentiment. A magnificant family bible dated 1873. This 12 lb thick leather bound treasure was printed by the Hubbard Bros. of Philadelphia. It is called a Complete Domestic Bible, translated out of the original tongues. The inset page reads, "a profusely illustrated pronouncing dictionary of the bible, a history of the books of the bible,a history of all religious sects, biographies of eminent bible characters, a history of the coins of the bible, and many other valuable aids and elegant embellishments." The cover is brown leather covering wood(built to last an eternity) and the spine reads Holy Bible. There are some scratches and wear spots on the leather covers. Strictly surface wear with no rips or breaks. However this protective covering has done it's job very well! The interior of this 125 year old bible is Excellent +. I should note that the leather cover has some Gothic designs engraved. There appears the name Marion in g! old in the center of the front cover. This is where it gets intriguing! It appears that this bible may have been given as a gift by a Aunt Affie Goodrich to Mrs. William M. Hanscom. Throughout the bible it is apparent that this family tome was that of the Hanscom's of Sheffield and Johnson Vermont. The bible has sections for family members to enter geneological information. On the beautifully colored matrimony form, someone has neatly entered the marriage of George Hanscom and Willimena Hill, in 1899. On another family record within the bible, we see more entries for the Hanscom clan from 1871 to 1964. On a separate form from the bible, there is a standalone family tree or geneology of the Falsom and Bean families dating back to 1660, Exeter, N.H.. Sometime in the early 1800's, a Hanscom married in and the geneology provides a wonderful record of the births and deaths and of their residence while alive. This is a very special record that I could auction as a separate lot bu! t I feel that it would be wrong to break up this history, waiting to b e told. I purchased this bible from the Sharon, Mass. Historical Society. It is the genuine article. I will not place a reserve but will modestly begin the bidding at $50.00. A truly wonderful item that could someday be an heirloom for your family.
