    2. The genealogy seminars that I've attended and the ones that I've only heard on tape have helped me to no end. Even on things that I've done for years, I often pick up a tidbit or two that helps give new perspective to a resource and helps me extend my research. Go prepared to take notes--either on the handouts in the margins, or in your own notebook. And since many have venders with their genealogy & related products, its worth taking extra money--just in case. Have fun going to some. Karen

They have been ordered to cease and desist, and yet... http://www.ancestry.com/home/Dick_Eastman/eastaug23.htm so... beware of any mail from OHIO. They do sign their letters with YOUR SURNAME followed by initials i.a. This means they are using this as a pen name, it is not their real name. 3. Hi Joanne! I received the following to post in the Genealogy Forum on AOL. Perhaps this will help. It is with great pleasure that the Dallas Genealogical Society announces the Institute of Genealogical Studies conference. The conference is scheduled for July 26-31, 1998. This important event is being presented by the Dallas Genealogical Society. For more information on this event, please visit the Dallas Genealogical Society's Web site at www.cyberramp.net/~igs. 1. Information on USArmy vets served in Pacific theatre WW2
    2. Does anyone know whom I might contact to get information on my 1st. cousin who served in the Pacific theatre and was medically discharded from the US Army? All I have on him is his name Heribert Maria Katrina Buerger (Burger) and that he immigrated from Germany as a child. I have no idea on his birthdate, place/date of discharge nor his parents names. I don't even know if he is dead or alive. If alive he would be approximately 70-80 yrs. old. If I can find anything out about him it will help me on my family tree tremendously. This cousin holds the key to other important info on my father's side of the family, he is the only link I have to one of my dad's brothers whose name I do not know. Thanks to anyone who might be able to help. doodle

    1. DNA
    2. Jim McDonnell
    3. Much in the NEWS these past 10 years, has DNA testing ever been applied to genealogy. I have found an elderly person I firmly believe to be may 2nd cousin one removed. But as yet, I have not located documentation. If I could establish a connection, it would tie me into a line going back to the 13th century. I expect that the lab work would be expensive. Also, while I don't know, I think (usually) it can best be "exclusive". In-other-words, it can determine non-relationship, but not positively determine if there was a relationship. Regards to all, Maybe it is only self-interest, but this could be an interesting thread if anyone knows enough to make a contribution. Frankly, I don't even know how to start investigating this technology. -- Jim McDonnell Seattle seamus@seanet.com A surplus of leisure; a bare sufficiency of funds.

    1. Re: Questions
    2. Barry, I think the term "at home" on the census usually referred to underage children who either were still in school or too young for school. It could have also referred to the wife being a housewife. It was usually listed in the occupation column so basically it meant that that person did not have a paying job. I think the term "m.g." probably meant minister of the gospel in referring to the person officiating. Possibly, a magistrate, but I would think it more likely a minister of the gospel. Edith You wrote <On a census, what does the term "At House" or "At Home" actually mean? On a marriage index, what does the title "M.G." of the one officiating the marriage mean?>

    2. AOL will not allow me to cut Email I recieve. I havee no problem highlighting what a want to save, going to Edit and clicking on Copy. Then I go to File and click on New. When the new window comes up I go to Edit and Click on Paste. Generally I get just what I highlighted. (Maybe twice when I did this all I got was black.) I then title it and save it to a disc.
