    3. Howdy all! I've accumulated a lot "stuff" since starting this genealogy excursion. All the data I've gathered has pretty much been verified and organized to a point that I think I can keep track of it. My next step was going to be obtaining courthouse records, something I've never attempted before. How 'bout all you veteran researchers out there filling me in on the best approach to this new record source. I could sure use the advice. -- Thanks, Barry Bunn ************************** Retail Merchandise Systems BBUNN1@JCPENNEY.COM (972) 431-8246 (972) 531-8246 FAX **************************

    3. Someone sent me this. I regret that it included no author or source. But I thought it appropriate fun for this forum. Elizzabeth ******************************************************* I CLIMBED MY FAMILY TREE I climbed my family tree and found, it wasn't worth the climb. so I scrambles down convinced it was a waste of time. Some branches of my tree I found, were rotton to the core, And all the tree was full of sap, and hung with nuts galore, I used to brag of my kinfold, before I made the climb. But truth compels me not to tell, of those not worth a dime. And beg my friends who boast aloud, Of their ancestors great. To climb their family tree and learn of those who weren't so "straight". I learned what family trees are like, and I scrambled down. They are like at tater-vine, 'cause the best are underground.

    1. Re: census question
    2. The federal government has taken censuses every ten years since 1790, although no all of the ones taken are still in existance (some parts have been lost). The biggest loss was the 1890 census which suffered water damage after a fire. (There's 3 reels worth of miscellaneous stuff that survived, and a veteran's & widow's schedule from mid Kentucky on back in the alphabet...supposed to have been only Civil War Union Vets & widows, but others were also enumerated by zealous census takers...it's better than absolutely nothing.) The 1880 one you ran across on line was probably 1880...a transcription. I caution folks on transcriptions because even with careful transcribing, they can misspell, misidentify families, so if you can find your folks on it great--use it as a reference to the real thing to see if you can find out anything additional (sometimes you can learn a lot.), and if you can't, go look at the real thing. If they alphabetize the transcription, you lose their place in the community, and we are often advised to look ten to twenty families either side of our families, because in another ten to twenty years, many of them will also turn out to be related by marriage. You can also get a feel for the handwriting of the day, and sometimes recognize your ancestor's name when someone else transcribing it might think it looked like something else. (A marriage transcription put one of my ancestors as Conner when it should have been Comer...a much less common, nearly unknown name in many areas...easy to overlook when it happens that way.) Sometimes you may find that a relative was actually the one who wrote the census in question, and you have pages of his handwriting as a memento. What I am saying is that we need to remember that transcriptions are secondary sources of original records and we need to treat them as such. Great finding aids, and guides to the real records. 3. Hi all., I have something that I need clarified. The Federal census was taken every ten years since 1790? It is only in public record until 1910? or 20? Also , one year, I think 1890 is missing. Am I right so far? States and counties sometimes took their own census also. If I found a census online that said say, Fairfield Co. Oh census for 1880, would it be safe to assume that it came from a federal census? I have found quite a few of these but they don't say whether it was a federal census or not and I am new at this. How do I tell? LeaAnn

    3. 3. I've gone through hypnosis myself for therapy. It does work but nowhere near like the movies. The movies are a joke in that respect. Basically, it is a deep state of relaxtion and you still maintain full control. It's a possibility for you that it might work but keep in mind it is definitely not inexpensive. Recommend you see a psychologist who is trained in hypnosis. Good luck!
