I tried the Masonic Lodge information route once. Two and a half years later I was able to get the information that I had requested. Good luck! Rich
My 2g grandpa was a member of the Masonic Lodge in eastern Iowa when he died in 1872. I tracked down the lodge he was a member of and they sent me a very sparce account of his lodge activity. Don't expect too much info., unless he may have been the head potentate. Ken Coolidge in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA
Several months ago, after reading about searching Masonic records (used a little book that I cannot put my hands on at the moment), I wrote on DECEMBER 7, 1997, to a lodge secretary in a large city. Never got a reply. So two days ago, I decided to follow up with a phone call (used Switchboard computer directory)...found his name listed and called. He was very nice, but told me that after a year and a half in his post as secretary, the records were still with the former secretary who lives very far away. He hopes to have records transported to is home SOON, whatever that is. He said he is very busy, works long hours, etc. etc. etc. At this point, all I know is that there is potential here but getting someone to actually look at the records is the stumbling block. I plan to wait about 6 weeks then call again. He told me he had two requests pending. On the next call, if he does not have the records in his possession, I will ask for phone number of former secretary, who might do the lookup. Has anyone else been successful in actually getting the records from various lodges? MaisieAnn@aol.com Hudson, OH
Are you sure it is not Monongahela? What years are you asking about? Depending on the years it could be both WV and VA Bette
If the records exist, they would contain this information. Some records were lost in a serious fire, but it is still worth attempting to obtain the records. Go to the following site to order forms to obtain these records. http://www.ngsgenealogy.org/education/content/basic/resource/lesson11.html Good luck. HELLO, Yes the mormons believe in sealing their famlies together forever. When work is done on deceased relitives, it is believed that they can accept the work or decline the work. We are all given free agency, you are free to not believe in this doctrine; however when you are at the right hand of your Father in Heaven you may wish to accept this work. When that time comes, you are still a free agent, as your relitives before you... When there is something I don't understand, I pray about it. I have prayed about this, I know that my free agency will not effect those around me. They can make up their own mind, accept or decline the work. I do it for them because someday I hope to be reunited with all of them, that there not be big gaps in my family line. Our beliefs are probably alot alike, just alittle different. One day we will meet in Heaven and it won't be so, our beliefs, our doctrine, our understanding will be the same. Until then our free agency helps get us through... dwedmer@cscomputing.net Diana, Write back, I'd be interested to hear from you...
Judy: I suspect your are referring to Monongohilia or something like that. There is a river that runs through Pittsburgh with that name so I suspect the county you are looking for is in Pennsylvania. There are three rivers that come into Pittsburgh, Monongohilia and two others but do not remember there names at this point. I think another one is the Alleghany. THANK YOU to all of the wonderful people who got me out of a jam with websites, I am trying to stay one step ahead of the fires in N Florida now 3 miles from home, so it will be a day or so before I get to check them all out. Roselyn Shiver

Hi.. Does anyone out there know if military medals, awards, etc. would have been on the WW2 separtion papers? Back then, was the miltary able to keep up with the men's records as they were being discharged after the war? IF not, does anyone know of an address to write to regarding a relatives records? Thanks for your patience..........Mary
Bless you all who place copies of your work in your Libraries and in the Libraries where your ancestors came from. There is a special place for you! I as a Librarian am always thrilled to be given anything that can be placed on the shelf. Genealogy material is expensive and small libraries have so little to spend for genealogy, as this is really a small portion of our patrons interest. I say tell all your friends give everything you can to your local library. Lynda McCARN BREEDING

I want to thank you all for your wonderful ideas on organizing. You are great! I'm going to carefully review the ideas and decide which ones would be best for me to implement right now, then save the rest of the ideas to use later as my needs change (or as my pocketbook expands <g>). Thank you again! Lila: I know there is a better answer but one thing I would recommend is to check with the State Historical Society or if you suspect a county, to check with that County Historical Society. So many times i run across something that will just give the township. Does anyone out there know of a master list with county names that would show all townships within that county. I know that they have probably changed over the years but would find it helpful to know that at least at sometime the particular township was in a certain county of the state interested in. I believe the doubling occurs when a "favorite" is listed by an AOL user. It does not occur when a Netscape user posts a url. BTW, I also went to the site (after playing with the url), and it is terrific. I had the pleasure of posting my husband's bronze star and purple heart information.
