    3. hello, I had looked for, and found this on the Woodmen of the world. It is an old Insurance company. I think it was rather like a lodge or something. You can find reference to it on the Internet..I did not have any luck getting inf. from them, but you may. The DD214 is not a Discharge, it is a Report of Seperation from the Armed Forces of the United States. 2. Has anyone had experience researching Genealogy in England? I am leaving for London and wondered if I could look up General Massey while I was there, but have no idea where to start. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks Roi >>

    3. Hi Richard: The DD214 is still being used today. It has changed since you and I were in but it is still the same form with the same purpose. The change of the forms from what was used to the DD214 occured around WWII I think, but I would not bet the horse on it. I only say this because I do a lot of funeral services with the American Legion as Chaplain and I need certain information off that form for our services. From Korea on it is the 214 and actually easier to read than the early forms that used to be used. Oh by the way, sorry I forgot but Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there. My "baby" is an MP up at Ft Lewis, WA. She goes to Panama in Nov or April for 6 months. Julie is looking forward to it. Forgive me for being a Dad but am proud to say she just received an early promotion to PFC. Her First Sergeant is grooming her for Soldier of the Month!! :-)) They thought they were going to Bosnia but that got pulled off the list. My oldest daughter is taking me to the ballgame tomorrow to watch Cards versus Detroit. Go Cards!!!!! 3. Ah, how true. In fact it is illegal in the State of Missouri for any courthouse to charge a veteran to file a copy of his DD-214. You think someday I may drag my tail up to Clayton and record mine?? Course, I have a keep a copy in the safe deposit box so I know where it is. Seriously though folks, if you are married to a veteran, ask him/her where that certificate is. Nag, henpeck, harp whatever, but find it, get it recorded at the courthouse or at minimum put it in a safe deposit box. For those who have prearranged funeral plans, give a copy to your funeral home. I don't know how many times I've seen during the past 400+ funerals I've attended where a certificate was not available. That piece of paper is probably the MOST IMPORTANT piece of paper that a veteran can own. I can hear the comments/flames now but it is true. 3. George and Mary, Although I had e-mailed Mary privately, I wanted to comment on what George had to say about the DD 214. From my father's and father-in-law's WW II records, both received the DD 214 which appears at the bottom of the form. With George's comments it makes me think that there must have been a "transitional phase" in the changing of discharge forms from Form 53 and Form 100 as mentioned by George to the DD 214, which I believe is still used to the current day.....at least it was during the Vietnam era, of which I was a part. George, I concur: A lot of veterans I know feel the only thing they rightfully should be given is a piece of ground and a flag for when that day comes to join the High Commander of us all. Richard

    1. Woodmen of the World
    2. Woodmen of the World, is a fraternal/insurance Company. My mother was also a member. She had a small policy. The only other one I can think of right now is The IOF--International Order of Foresters. I'm sure there are others. I think the home office for WOW is in Omaha, Nebraska. There is a radio and TV station named WOW. I think there was a conection. Ken Coolidge in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA

    3. Hi Gloria. Thank you for your kind comments. You said what I was trying to say in that to a lot of us veterans feel it is an obligation, responsibility and debt that needs to be repaid to those that have gone before us and especially those that died for our country, both men and women. 3. Hi Marcia: Go back into your FTM program and click on File and then click on Open. When the box opens up go ahead and indicate the directory and folder the file is in. Also, make sure you indicate it to lists "ALL FILE TYPES" not just the FTW files. Once you get that go ahead and click on OKAY. It will then ask you a name to save the file under. Go ahead and give it a name such as Smith.FTW and then click on Okay again. Took me a couple of times before I spotted the "List type of files" problem. Once I changed it to all files, then the GEDCOM showed up.
