    1. NO MORE BARBARAS
    2. BARBARA A POMPEI
    3. For some reason there are a preponderance of people named "Barbara" sending the receiving emails messages........ Is that a genealogical requirement just like all my maternal ancestors had to name their daughters Anna,Mary, Helen and Elizabeth?...(so I can't tell who is who?).... Anyway...it's kinda funny....I see responses to Barbara and I keep thinking that alzheimers is setting in quicker than I thought cause I sure don't remember sending those messages that they're responding to........ Nah...you don't have to change your names........I 'm just flapping my lips (my fingers in this case). Barbara....uprooting family trees in Sacramento.

    2. LMiller Typical there is a list in the County Court House where potters fields are handled thru The county will also have a list at least in Cinn Oh of all those person who were found dead and no one claimed the body, and buried in potters field. These records will be typical kept by the County Commissioners so there records is where you will probably have to look, check with the county commissioner clerk. Cemeteries now as I understand it at start up have to designate a certain amount of grave sites for Indigentents that have no other persons to provide a burial service. In Tulsa the services are restricted no viewing. I knew a girl who had no family in the area and offered to have her buried in one of my plots the Funeral home informed me that they would be paid $250.00 for the service by the County but if I donated the burial site I would have to pay for all of the services such as grave opening and closing and the casket total about 4 Grand. so She now has a nice head stone. I have also searched the County records in Cinn Oh for my grand father George Geesing who died some time after 1925 and as yet have not found a burial site yet and as for as I know have left no record undistrubed. If by chance you read this and know of this man let me know. George in Tulsa

    2. I have been searching for my grandmothers death records for about a year and have just about searched out. I know funds were limited and she was seperated from her hubby. Am down to considering a paupers burial. Does anyone know anything about this potters field burial process. I checked with one of the cemeterys and they said the city would donate city lots to the deceased and or family. One of my questions is how would you go about findig out inf. on this and do they keep recods of such. Are there records to be searched for this and would a death certificate be issued?? lots of questions and no answers. lila lmiller865@aol.com

    3. Whoa! The SS applications that I've requested (submitted in 1930's) did NOT in include death date or place of death of the applicant. Keep in mind that if you request a copy of the actual application it would be impossible for the applicant to fill out his/her date and place of death... unless they filled it out on their deathbed! IMHO, a copy of the actual application is the most genealogically satisfying but it WON'T include death information. 3. Hi Ardis: I would recommend you try and send a Form 180 to the National Personnel Records Center, 9700 Page Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63132. If your brother is no longer in the service then his records should be there. My dad was in the Navy right after WWII and that is where his records are. However, assuming you and your brother grew up together, there probably won't be any information in his file that would be of interest to you from a genealogy perspective. If you are looking for his records from a perspective of his military history then they would be of use to you. 2. You cannot correct this; only the people that send replies to this list re: Digest ems can. If you notice, re: appears before the subject matter, which indicates they are replying to that particular subject. The only solution to this, is for the respondents to change the subject title. I hope I didn't confuse the issue. Eileen Hepgrannie

    3. Holly, This type of things started a couple of weeks ago (maybe longer) when people who take the digest started putting the item # in the subject line instead of what they are talking about. It doesn't help people who want to know what the subject of the email is. I wish that they would stop and put the topic and not the number. Especially since numbers of us don't get the digest form and don't want it. 3. I agree that you must be very careful on the Net not to reveal much about yourself. The exception to this, however, I find are the genealogy sites. I suppose stalkers find these sites too unexciting to bother monitoring! ;-) Once we make a family connection on the Net, it becomes necessary to exchange such info. I have found 11 "cousins" so far on the Net, all searching the same BAKER family lline, none of whom had I even heard of before! Even more uncanny is their sending me my late mother's letters and research of 40+ years ago, info that they had found in genealogical libraries in VA. and KY. I have arranged to meet several of them, a delightful experience, and am attending a 29th. annual reunion this Sunday where I shall meet many more, a reunion I knew nothing about till I met my Net cousins! The Net has enabled me to increase my BAKER family tree to more than 1,000 names, and I am adding more daily. Regarding email names, some of us are stuck using our real names! That is the type of address that everyone gets at my university. Possibly a bigger danger on the Net is the posting of family trees that include living people. All a scam artist needs in order to steal your identity and take out credit in your name is your name, your birth date and usually your mother's maiden name, items easily obtainable from family trees. Exxxxxxx! ;-) Kaspar by way of Genealogy Records Service wrote: > Found this little snippet in a magazine this evening and thought it might be > useful information, especially for those of us who have children using the > Internet: > > PROTECTING YOURSELF ON-LINE > > Don't reveal personal information, such as your home or work phone number or > address, to anyone you meet on-line. 1. Naturalization Papers
    2. Elaine Maddox
    3. This message was posted to another list and I thought it would be of interest to a number of us (definitely me!). . . . . . who are looking for naturalizations papers, I don't know if this is the best procedure, but this is how I found my great-grandfather's naturalization papers. By family members, I was told that they were certain he did become a U.S. citizen so I was sure I would find a record somewhere. At the genealogy library of the Midcontinent Library system in Kansas City the librarian directed me to a 4 volume publication called Passenger and Immigration Lists Index. It is published by Gale Research Co and edited by P. William Filby. This index is probably available at most genealogy libraries. In the volume covering A-K, I looked up my great-grandfather's name (Michael ***) and found a Michael *** approximately the right age (14 years old), arriving in the right year (1871), at the right port (New York) and traveling alone (stowaway). These books list family groups traveling together and also the name of the ship they arrived on. From the information in that book, the librarian showed me how to locate another book. There is a code number by each entry and each code refers to another book or court where the naturalization was filed. A list of the codes and their respective references is in the front of the Index book. In my great-grandfather's case it referred me to a book called Philadelphia Naturalization Records also published by Gale Research Co. and edited by P. William Filby. In this book I found that my great-grandfather filed for naturalization in the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia in 1879. He had to wait until he was no longer a minor and had been a resident of the United States for five years. The address for the Court of Common Pleas archives was listed. I wrote to the archives in Philadelphia and for $7.00 I finally received the naturalization paper. In this case, there were no declaration of intent papers since he arrived in the United States as a minor. I understand that declaration of intent papers usually contain much more genealogical data and the court would have sent them, too, if there had been any for no extra charge. However, I then found out that this naturalization was never completed. He left Philadelphia before it was complete and moved to Chicago. We did find a completed naturalization for him in Kansas City, Kansas where he filed many years later (1917). To find the Kansas City naturalization we just went to the Wyandotte County Courthouse and looked through their records. To find the records for another relative who was naturalized in Dakota Territory in 1880, we simply wrote to the county court house. Of course, records in larger cities are more complicated to find. I would suggest trying the Passenger and Immigration Lists Index and then contacting the court where the naturalization took place or just contacting the County courthouse where you believe the person was naturalized. I hope this information will help you in your search.
