Hi, I am also interesting in finding information about my dad who served in the British Calvary during WW-I. Is there anyone who can help me find information about this? Does anyone have, or know about the book "COMPLETE INDEX TO THE WEBB'S CENTENART OF CATHOLICITY IN KENTUCKY"? I need a copy of pages 93, 206, and 330. Thanks. Ken Coolidge
Hi George, Yes, I knew that this was one way of doing it, but I've also heard that this is just a temp copyright and that you should still be sending your fee and request in to the copyright office. At leaset, that is what I last heard from the Coyright list at Rootsweb. Doesn't mean it's correct, but just that this is what I read. Thanks, Peggy At 11:48 PM 6/30/98 -0400, George G. It would be wonderful to find an index of Great grandpa arriving from Ireland but I don't think one exists...yet. Therefore....if a person were immigrating from Ireland....County Down...to the USA....is there a "likely" port he would have arrived at? This was about 1865 and he ended up in Pittsburgh.. If need be I can just start reading ship lists....do lists exist for that time period? Thanx Barbara....uprooting family trees in Sacramento.
Hi Ardis and Peggy! You do NOT need to "apply" for a copyright. Simply by adding the copyright sign, followed by the words, "Copyright 1998 [your name here] - ALl rights reserved" you have preserved your rights. Long past are the days of applying to the Patent Office for a copyright. Hi George and All, My neighbor has complained that in Marion County, W.Va. that wills, and other historical information has been destroyed. Do you know anything about this? Dear All I have just finished re-modelling the title page of my website to try to make it easier to access and quicker to load. It contains lots of useful links for research in England, as well as loads of other links to general genealogy sites. Also included is a section on Pocahontas/John Rolfe/Jamestown/Virginia. Please visit (URL below) and do let me know of any more links that you would like to see included. Part of the rules go along with: 1. how much is copied from another copyrighted source and whether you cite your source. 2. very much copied requires permission from original copyright holder, and correct citation of source. Source citation is always a good idea anyway, or you get accused of plagiarism. Karen
In a message dated 6/30/98 3:09:46 PM Central Daylight Time, gfcosmos@gate.net writes: << GenTips-L@rootsweb.com >> The most important thing that any genealogy program can have is GEDCOM (genealogy data communication) capability. Beyond that, most genealogy programs are affordability of the individual and preference. I use Personal Ancestral File, which is the originator of GEDCOM. I've been very satisified with it, but the basic program doesn't have as many "bells & whistles" as some of the more elaborate, expensive programs. The program costs $15, but there are add on's if you want to write a book or do something fancy. The add on's tend to cost about the same, and be multiple featured. If you decide to try it, you can go to the nearest LDS Family History Center as they have it on their computers. Also, they will have an order blank for it. It is definitely a must to record on a gen. program though. Since any one person can appear 5 different places (parent, grandparent, child, spouse, or "other" spouse) on a group sheet, putting them on the program eliminates having to retype the same info several different times, and risking introducing errors. Happy choosing. Karen
I received a look up which I am very grateful for but I need some help with it. First My g-grandfather was known here in the US as Charley Olson. It was not until I saw a copy of his obit that I learned his name was Carl Olson. On some documents I have found Carl but on most such as birth certificates I have found Charley and then on some Charles. I understand the Charley /Charles thing but how did he use both Carl and Charles. To further this I can't seem to find immigration papers in either name. Does any one know how to either confirm the name Carl as being legal or Charles? The look up I received was from Sweden states: Olson Carl 1864 17 M 1881-04-15 Gestad P Arnot 17:290:12578 G I have no idea what the numbers mean. I have his birth date as July 30 1863. Hi Roselyn - I saw your post on researching Malachi & Mathew Rushing in SC and Aaron in FL. I show Malachi & Mathew on WFT volume 12 and am expecting to get vols. 8-12 sometime today (hopefully). I will look this up for you and let you know what I find. I didn't find any Rushing in SC, but did find some in the 1790 census for Anson County, NC also found about 5 in Seminole Indian War in FL. They might be descendants of Aaron that you are familiar with. Let me know if I can help you with anyone else. My e-mail is: RLugowski@aol.com - Good Luck - Ruth in NC
