    3. I would not give up. I am the last of my male line, but think how many came before me. You and I may have communicated before. However, I will be happy to take a look at your research (an edited version, please) to see if I have any suggestions. :) Don <http://web.nstar.net/~dwat6911>http://web.nstar.net/~dwat6911 dwat6911@nstar.net -----Original Message----- From: Rusty Gordon (by way of Genealogy Records Service <info@genrecords.com>) <uraeus@ionet.net> To: GenTips-L@rootsweb.com <GenTips-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, 02 July, 1998 12:47 PM Subject: LAST LIVING DESCENDENT >I have come to the conclusion that I am the last of my line, THE LAST LIVING >DESCENDENT!!! >I have tried to be helpful to everyone that ask for my assistance but I >really have found no information available for me, with one or two >exceptions. 1. Surnames I am researching
    2. I am new to GenTips, but I have been hooked on genealogy for over 14 years. Hooked so bad I am sure the relatives are avoiding me. Here are some of the surnames I am researching: BI/BURCHFIELD, CLARKE, HILBURN/BORN/ERN/BORNE, SORREL/LL/LLS, TEEL, YOUNG, YALCH, JALC, LONG, BOYD, HOUSER, GAGGERS/JAGGERS, BRADEN, BROWN. GILBERT, MCCANDLESS, ROBERTS.  I also have information on the Dillard family since they married into my family several times.  It was easier to collect their infomation than to not take it. I have over 4000 names in my family tree.  I am willing to share my info. if you are willing to share with me.  My home page is; <http://www.familytreemaker.com/l/o/n/Peggy-J-Long/index.html>http://www.fa milytreemaker.com/l/o/n/Peggy-J-Long/index.html I have 4 decendant trees at the bottom of the page and I can put on and take off others so you can see who I have.  Peggy Long

    2. Dear Rusty, Don't give up just yet, I have been searching for two "branches" of my family for the last 20 years...and there is still one that just dropped off the face of the earth after having conceived 3 children!!!!! In the last two weeks, I have found two of these "branches" by the kindness of my friends on the internet...one was just a middle name of the person I was researching, the other found my quearie in South Africa and e-mailed me with the address of a "cousin" right here in my own backyard! So, sit back, relax, and give it a little breather...I was getting frustrated with my cousin who would just click on her computer, and EVERYTHING that she was looking for would come pouring out of her printer...I was really beginning to hate her! Hang in there! Diane

    1. Birthdate from deathdate??
    2. Anna M. Langley
    3. On one of the lists I am on (hope it was this one) it was being discussed how to determine the birthdate from the death date, such as DOD 14 January 1924, was 80 yrs.6 mos, 21 days. This was on my G-grandfathers death cert and I am checking info previously obtained. I have birthdate as 24 June 1843. Can someone refresh my mind about how to get the correct figure? TIA. 3. In my opinion, do not expect too much from the places you can search on the net. I have been searching every place I can get into, and have yet to find anything that connects to my family line. Most of what I have gotten is by using the census and soundex films. Even the books in the librarys have been of no help. The only reason I still have terminal, is that there are several persons with the surname that contact me by email, but even that is very limited for me. Don't give up but don't depend on one source. 2. Dear Sherry, It very well could have been the same place, contact the local historical society for Grassey MO, it could have had it's name shortened...There was a person looking for " Fruitland " Colorado quite awhile back on the list, I had my niece check with the local historical society near them....they lived in Grand Junction, right next to "Fruita" Colorado....."Fruitland" is now simply " Fruita" Colorado! 2. Dear Janis, I have in my posession a small piece of paper that belonged to my great-grand father, it is a receipt for a set of four plots in a little cemetary in Wood County , Ohio and it is dated before 1880. So I guess, depending on the type of cemetary, there would be some type of record of the "transaction" alloting our little green acre for our final resting place. Diane

When I was in Salt Lake City last week there were zillions and zillions of microfilmed church records from England. It may be possible for you to order a film from your particular area. Good luck! 1. Re: LAST LIVING DESCENDENT--Ditto
    2. Rusty and Julee, You can't be impatient where genealogy is concerned! It sometimes takes years to track down one elusive ancestor. I've been searching for over 20 years (off and on) and only recently found proof of one of my ancestors. I have another line that I still can't find anything on. I have been lucky on a couple of my lines....found people online, even published books pertaining to them, but it doesn't always happen that way. When you hit a brick wall, just start out on another line. You may stumble across something along the way <grin>. Good luck! 1. Re: atlases
    2. Hi, I saw 2 different atlases by Rand-McNally at K-Mart which seemed similar to the ones I saw at Office Max. The ones at K-Mart were only about $5.00 while the ones at Office Max were more expensive. I don't know what the difference was except K-Mart's name is on the front cover. They might be worth checking out to see if they show counties, etc. I usually use the maps in my old World Book encyclopedias so I didn't check them out too closely. Edith <An atlas is indeed an essential. However, new atlases in the bookstores aren't always comprehensive, nor are the really good ones cheap.>
