    3. I've seen programs where some ethnic groups have mass weddings where thousands get married at once... I propose we have a group adoption.....and we'll all adopt one another and then we'll all have tons and tons of ancestors to keep us busy the rest of our lives....no more of this crazy drive to find some crumb of info..we'll be inundated with more than we'll ever be able to absorb!! What da' ya say to that? Barbara....uprooting family trees in Sacramento.

    1. Re: Birthdate from deathdate??
    2. Anna ( and anyone else who is interested), The following is from the is from the GRS newsletter. Hope it helps. 1. How to Figure Birthdates >From "Compendium of Historical Sources" by Ronald Bremer Often tombstones have a notation such as: "Died 15 June 1872, Aged 77 years, 10 months, 3 days." How do you determine the correct birthdate? First of all, make the sequence read days, months, years: thus 15-6-1872 minus 3-10-77. Since the 10th month cannot be subtracted from the sixth, borrow 12 months from the year of death, making the year 1871 and the month 18. (If you borrow from the month to make days, borrow 30 days, even though the month might have 31.) The equation now looks like: 15-18-1871 minus 3-10-77. Begin the calculations on the right hand side. Therefore, 77 years from 1871 means that the person was born in 1794. Subtracting 10 months from 18 gives you eight months, or August. So the correct date of birth was 12 August 1794.

    2. I know my great great grandmother is buried in a family cemetary outside of Slidell LA. My grandmother said all family members can be buried free. I don't think that includes paying someone to dig the grave. I not sure when the first person was buried there. I will ask for more details. I have not been in this cemetary since I was a child. 3. I too know the feeling. For over 30 years I have been researching most of my lines of my pedigree, finding little evidence that anyone else is researching the same line on most branches. Then in an effort to contact other descendents of my paternal immigrant ancestor, I posted my files online. Subsequent to that an individual with a remote relationship from an entirely different line, downloaded my entire file to his files, and resubmitted everything as his own, not just one time, but two times. So, my files are listed once and his resubmission of them twice. When I wrote to him to inquire regarding it, he had already blocked any email from me to him. When I wrote the list managers, they said we should settle it between ourselves. Poor on their part in my estimation. I have instructed them to withdraw my files. I will submit my research in the various counties where it may do real descendents some good. On the other side of the coin, there is a gentleman who has been looking up records for one of my husband's families, and has been sending them right along with no thought for himself. Help far above and beyond "the call of duty". I would have taken a long time to know the ins and outs that he does, and his kindness will be repaid. I find after all that I can do some research for him. And beyond that I have a new friend. So, there are truly both types of persons out there. Frankly, if it helps me to further the original research on my line, I guess I would rather take my chances. After all the fellow who lifted my entire files, has only what I submitted. He has none of the subsequent original research, nor does he have the documentation that I have in abundant supply. He has a distinct lack of integrity, and I truly believe that "time wounds all heels". Charlene Calvert Pinkowski charpink@gte.net York, PA, USA

    1. GREATHOUSE & RAU
    2. Hi-I'm looking for information of ancestors with the Surnames as listed. Other known for Greathouse is Groethausen, Groethaus, Grothaus.  Other for Rau is Rauh, Raub, and Rowe.  Both names are german, although I cannot find anything on the ships list. I have traced Greathouse back to Isaiah R. Greathouse DOB 1.2.1816 DOD 3.17.1877 m: Martha one known descendant Thomas N. DOB 1851 DOD 1919 born in Warren Ohio.  Other than that I have hit a dead end.  Family history says they came from Germany to PA to OH to IN which is where all are buried.  Isaiah is my husbands gr. gr. grandfather.  Rau is my gr. gr. grandmother Gertrude Carroll Agnew Rau DOB 2.23.1883 DOD 08.74 , mother was Agnes Carroll Agnew.  I have found a James Agnew on a ships list but cannot connect the two. Anyone with information will be greatly appreciated.  Gail Greathouse _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
