    1. RE: Adoption
    2. I want to say this as kindly as possible as this is the thinnest skinned list I am on. I am doing research for my best friend. We are trying to locate her only child that she gave up for adoption in 1970. Please, please!!! Stop posting silly little notes with this as the subject as I am compelled to look at each one and I just do not have the time. Is anyone on the list still doing genealogy???? If it were not for people like George Basden and George Morgan I would unsub, but they have been invaluable in my search. Please only one posting on a silly subject per screen name and maybe we will finish with one in a month's time!!!!! Marcia in Tn

Simply go to the Family History Center & ask for help ordering the parish register from that place. (Some of what you've got may be the farm name, which might slow you down some, however, rather than the parish name.) Scandinavian parish records are wonderful, and one only needs to know a few words in whichever language to be able to extract the information you need. Pay close attention to the sponsors at the baptisms as well. Generally (not always--there's always an exception), most of the people will be close relatives, usually aunts & uncles for the most part. This can give important clues in sorting out the next generation, especially if there are four Ole Olesen's in the time frame you're looking for. As for the name change, if you can find the right parish, just look at the date and you should be able to figure out from there which baby was born on that date & if the first names are matching, that's more than likely the match. Sherman may be an Anglicization of the farm name, which many Norwegians adopted in addition to their patronymic. Patronymics are wonderful clues as to the next generation back, so don't let the idea of "the name changing every generation" scare you. While I'm far from a Scandinavian expert, I've done both Swedish & Norwegian research--and don't feel that it is any harder than what you run up against in US research--in some respects--easier, especially if you're using Swedish records with their clerical survey, in addition to the parish register. 2. Sonya C. Caudle
    3. Hey, you are lucky! You have more information on your ggrandfather than I do on my ggggrandfather or my gggrandfather! All I know is that Joseph Bongard - my ggggrandfather - was a priest somewhere in Germany and immigrated to the US sometime around 1870 or so! I do know that there is a family story that he left the priesthood because he found out that the monastary he was associated with was burning the fetuses from abortions performed on nuns that had become pregnant by some of the other priests there. (Remember: this is ONLY a family passed down story and could be totally false!) I do know that he married Alvinia Meise from Quincy, Illinois once he was over here and they went on to have 1 son and 3 daughters - one of whom is my greatgrandmother who married George "Jack" Enslow who seems to be an alien from outer space as I cannot seem to connect him to any family here on earth! And I have been trying to since I was first interested in genealogy around the age of 18! Any suggestions here? 2. Hi Rusty, I'm an only child, my mother, father and all other's have passed away. No one in the family but me, was ever interested in our "roots". I was blessed with only one granddaughter and the least I can leave her is "her roots". As long as I can remember my mother told me, "Don't ever let anyone or anything break your spirit".... Rusty, I feel that my spirit, has a little of all my family before me also. Yours does too, that's why you've searched for 18 years. Thanks for sharing and we all care, Judith

    3. Hello Grace and all again, So this means that 3222 Bronx Blvd. Bronx New York is in the city and county of New York. Does anyone have access to city directories or anything like that to find out the names of the people living at that address in February of 1940?  There should be a family with the name of Milton WALLACE, wife, and a son named Robert WALLACE, aged 10 years old.  I need to somehow find the name of the wife and how she spelled it and from where she came. Thank you.
