    3. Thanks to all who replied to my question about the "Foxfire" books. They sound quite educational and a wonderful way to envision how our ancestors lived. 2. These books are written in Rabun Co, Ga and are collections of all kinds of information gathered thru interviews with 'old timers' in that area. There are about 10 or so volumes plus some specialty collections on things like cooking , toy making, etc. I bought the cooking collection for my mother and I get wait to inherit it!! It told how things were made before refrigeration.....things like cottage cheese and other interesting things, not just the run of the mill food Volume One TELLS ABOUT: HOG DRESSING, LOG CABIN BUILDING, MOUNTAIN CRAFTS AND FOODS, PLANTING BY THE SIGNS, SNAKE LORE, HUNTING TALES, FAITH HEALING , MOONSHINING, AND OTHER AFFAIRS OF PLAIN LIVING........ Volume 2 tells about: GHOST STORIES, SPRING WILD PLANT FOODS, SPINNING AND WEAVING, MIDWIFING, BURIAL CUSTOMS, CORN SHUCKIN'S AND WAGON MAKING..... There are many pictures. Hope this gives you an idea. Edie in Atlanta [email protected]

    3. I have an old picture of someone who my sister looks like. This picture belonged to my grandmother but she is no longer living. We asked other living relatives and nobody seems to know who she is. How would I go about finding out if she is a relative?

    1. ATTENTION: W32/Pretty.Park - worm that infects Windows 9x/NT files
    2. Wanted to pass this on for anyone who hasn't heard. From: [email protected] (Steve Saviello) Listowner of [email protected] (Italian Genealogy and Culture) Hi Folks! This is REAL!!! Heads up............. W32/Pretty.Park Aliases: Pretty Worm Ici pour French Translation Virus Characteristics: This is a worm that infects Windows 9x/NT files. Virus Information: This program, when run, will copy itself to FILES32.VXD in WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder. It then changes the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\exefile\shell\open\command and uses the VXD via the shell to run any exe file. It has been reported that the program sends email to everyone in the users address book. When it does it has also been reported that the file is sent as well. This behavior has not been duplicated by AVERT. Discovery: May 26, 1999 DAT Included: 4029 Type: Worm Risk Assessment: Low If you need to remove this worm, go to: http://www.avertlabs.com/public/datafiles/valerts/vinfo/va10184.asp and download the small file. It is a (1K) zip file. Thanks to Mike Mangeruca for bringing this to COI's attention.

    2. There was a series of book written by school children and their teacher in the Appalachian area about "the old folk", recounting the arts of independent living, soap making, butchering, etc. I believe I have the entire set. Let me know what you need, perhaps I can find it and send the information on to you.

    3. My great uncle just wrote me telling me that the best reference to all of his family (Siler, Emmons, Homsher) will be found in Fox Fire Book #4 in any library. Unfortuenately I am living overseas and can't access one. This doens't sound like a complete title to a book so my question is, does anyone know of this book what he may be refering to? Thanks for any help or ideas! Stephanie Leary [email protected]

    1. Class of 1929 Harvard College Decennial Report
    2. While yard sale-ing last weekend, I came across a book written in 1939 that includes information on the graduating class of 1929 from Harvard College. The book includes a short autobiography from each of the members and lists occupation, home address, business address, and spouse name and the names of any children. Some of them also include the marriage date. There is no index, but the names are in alphabetical order, so I will be happy to do searches (within reason). If your ancestor went to Harvard and could have possibly graduated in 1929, e-mail me. Jennifer
