    3. Start with what you know....so with yourself, your children, your parents ect...then ask your parents for help with their families...then go to your grandparents aunts uncles, cousins etc...check for marriage certificates, death certificates, birth certificates, family bibles, (old pictures) sometimes elders wrote down names of those in the pictures and the year and the ages....some good sites to check out are www.lineages.com, www.genrecords.com, www.familytreemaker.com, www.familysearch.org. 1. Travel Maps USA
    2. Hi All, I got this from another list and thought I'd share. It sounds very interesting... >>To all my fellow researchers. My brother is a truck driver. He gave me a program today that just blew my mind. It is a travel program that he purchased at Walmart for $9.95. It is called Travel Maps USA by Cosmi. It shows all the cemeteries in the United States. All the County Roads. And all the main roads. You can search by Address, City, State, County, Zip Code, Airport, and Other Places. In Other Places you can put the name of the Cemetery that you are trying to find and it will show you exactly where it is. You can zoom in on the cemetery and it will show you the layout of the cemetery. When you first find the cemetery it shows 2 crosses side by side. Click on them and the cemetery layout will appear. No more asking anyone how to get to that cemetery. You can put in your address and the address of the cemetery and it will give you turn by turn directions to it. Let me tell you it is a must for all of us researchersand the price is right and you can get it at your nearby walmart. When you look for it it will be in a cd case on a rack. It is not in a box. There are no instructions with the program. The program has a built in help file. Take my word for it, it is a must for all of us researchers.<< Follow ups mentioned that CompUSA & Office Max also had the program.

    3. # 1 start with yourself, husband, children, your parents, grandparents etc.. There are two good sites to search they are www.ancestry.com and the LDS site www.familysearch.org Enter names as requested of your grandparents, great etc. See if someone else has started a page on your line. Birth certificates, death certificates, family Bibles, word of mouth, (from aunts-uncles etc) obits from newspapers, records from funeral homes. there is a site to print free forms for searching at http://www.genrecords.com/ If you have a question go to www.askjeeves.com enter question and sites will come up to search. Good luck, you are on your way to a lot of interesting research. 1. Opening JPG files
    2. Gordon: Iexplorer.exe is Microsoft Internet Explorerer, isn't it? If you are not using this browser, then the jpg won't open it in this window. All you have to do is open it in another program. Like Microsoft Paint, or any other program you have on your computer that will open jpj files. You should have something there! You either have to have Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. Maybe the Internet Explorer is on your computer, but just not installed? That is why you are getting error messages? Patty

    1. Immigration Papers
    2. Mary: Did you get a copy of the passenger list? That usually has interesting information contained in it? I've never heard of any other immigration type papers besides the Declaration of Intent or Naturalization Papers. Patty

    2. Just want to ditto Margaret. I also use Family Origins. No bells or whistles, or anything fancy. It works great. I love it. Very easy to use and understand. It has all the features of the more expensive programs and I don't even use them all. Patty

    1. Flamed?
    2. I was unfortunate on 6/27/99 to have someone get into my computer and send out over 800 emails in my name. Someone caught it and reported it to AOL. I had been out of town for several days. and knew nothing about it until last evening when I tried to go on-line. If any of you received one, my apologies! I don't even know what it contained. 1. Tanguay dictionary: Canadian families frm founding to early 1800s
    2. Dolly Ziegler
    3. Hello to GPain & the list. _Dictionnaire genealogique des familles canadiennes depuis la fondation de la colonie jusqu' a nos jours_ by Cyprien TANGUAY, in seven volumes, is a "[g]enealogical dictionery of Canadian families from the founding of the colony to the early 1800s." And the best news is, it is part of the Microfiche Reference Collection to be found at all Family History Centers in the U.S. and Canada. (Often referred to as "200 most used books." See microfiche numbers 6016466-96.) Please note, I do not *have* these books, I am merely pleased to be able to tell you where to find them. Some large public libraries may also have the series. Cheers, Dolly in Maryland > Has any head of the Tanquary Dictionaries. They are genealy dicitonaries > in several volumes. Thanks for any help
