My father came to the U.S. at age four from Finland (through Canada, I think??) about 1919 with two sisters and his parents. I have heard that they would have gone to England first. Is that true for that time period? >From what port would they most likely leave England? Is it likely that all of the passengers leaving England would be from Finland or a mixture of people from many places? Their last name was changed from Wiisanen to Carlson. Would this be done at the entry point into the U.S.? They ended up in Pueblo, CO. What record would most likely give me the exact date and entry point into the U.S? Jim [email protected]
Dear All You Experts Out There! :)) I've just received a reply to my request from the Michigan Historical Center stating that "no entry was found for (my ancestor) in the naturalization index of the Kent County Circuit Court." Does that mean the papers might be resting somewhere else? Like the Federal Court? And if so, does anyone have any idea where I could write for them? Thank you all so much for your on going help! See http://genealogy.miningco.com/library/download/bl-forms.htm Family Group Sheets This Microsoft® Word® Document set (*.doc files) was created by George Huffaker. You can print copies of blank sheets to fill in by hand, complete on your computer to print afterward, or send copies of blanks to others for completion. George asked me to remind folks you must save each group sheet as a unique file name as you complete it, or it will overwrite previous copies. Many thanks to George for freely sharing these! I also believe that most genealogy programs will print out blank family group sheets. Sue Carpenter wrote: > Does anyone know where a society can purchase family group sheets? How do I get my home page indexed? Sue
Hi everyone, I have a problem with researching my great-grandfather Frederick Dressler in Pennsyvania. He was born in Union Co, PA. in 1832, and the Source Book and Genalogical Helper Book indicate that the vital records don't go that far back. I would probably have to find church records. I found records at the FHC that fit my Frederick Dressler, right date of birth, death and marriage givng the parents as George Fisher born 1802 in Union Co., PA. and Sarah Fischer b. in PA. I had also sent in my records that match that of the original submitter, whom I cannot locate now. However, Frederick Dressler's death certificate show his parents as John Dressler and Mary Crum. No name is given as to where the information came from. I see that I can send $25 to the Union Co. Historical Society to research one surname. Has anyone had eperience with this type of research. I have sent in $10 a number of times without luck for vital statistics. If they can find some information it would be worth the money, as I cannot travel there. I was wondering if anyone knows a reliable researcher in that area that would be able to verify Frederick's parentage for a reasonable amount. I understand you have to pay for the research whether anything is found or not, but would like to know if anyone has had luck with research from a historical society. I am retired and cannot afford to spend alot on research, but seem to be at a standstill now. Thanks, Jean Suman [email protected]
Does anyone know where a society can purchase family group sheets? Ancestry.com doesn't have the kind we want. Southern Indiana Genealogical Society
Hello to Sue and the list. Everton's has a big variety of family group sheets and ancestor charts, etc., and when bought in quantity they are reasonably priced -- 500 sheets for $16 plus $1.50 s&h, even cheaper in larger quantities. Most are archival quality paper. Note the "portrait pedigree" which has 31 spaces for small photographs. Ask for a catalog at Everton Publishers Inc., PO Box 368, Logan UT 84323-0368. Their toll-free number is 1-800-443-6325. Usual disclaimer, I have no financial interest in this company, just a satisfied customer for almost 30 years. If you have no idea "where" in Nebraska he died, start with the census records and see what you might find. Then check with the state archives and see what they have on the railroads and when they were first laid. They might be able to tell you through which towns the railroad first ran and that could narrow down your search. Diane
Does Miss. have an early death index? I'm told that my ggrandfather, Wiley PAUL d. abt 1870 in Tippah Co., MS. I haven't been able to find ANYTHING relating to this. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance. Linda

Someone was looking for a microfiche viewer recemtly, I think on this newsgroup. email me direct at: [email protected] for details. I came across a couple of them. regards Loring
The first time I became aware of a 4th brother of my grandfather was when I found my ggrandparents grave in Co. Roscommon Ireland. It mentions Thomas Kelly "who died March 1890 in Nebraska USA aged 28 years". I'm told there are no death records in NE for that time. My grandfather and two brothers worked for a railroad and am almost certain that at one time on a railroad that ran through Taylor Co. in Iowa, as one lived in Taylor Co for a while. I have several portraits of my grandfather taken in Shenandoah, IA in the neighboring Page county but I know for sure that he lived in Chicago. I am assuming Thomas probably was a railroad worker, too. Where do I start? Joan [email protected]
