You are right. I didn't see any addresses for either of Ancestry.com or library.com - but both have toll free numbers. I'm sure they would love to give you their address if you call them toll free and explain why you need their address. Ancestry.com is 1-800-ANCESTRY. library.com is 1-800-325-7759. ~ Susan
Try http://www.nara.gov/genealogy/soundex/soundex.html or type "Soundex Machine" from any search engine. It is usually the first hit. Figuring out the soundex can be sorta fun, but this little baby is quick and computer accurate. ~ Susan
Does anyone have a clue if there is a place on line to find prisoner in Minnesota? Apparently my G-grandfather spent time in Stillwater State prison for assault? Any clues? Thanks, Colleen
I was given this address with a note that said I could get info on oxxupations. Form 1850-to at least 1900 the men in family have been plasterers. I have been told that back then it was a specialty skill to have. Is this something that can lead me to more details about my family tree/ Judy Wilkinson [email protected]

Be sure to use a pen that the ink will not fade. Be sure to let the caretaker of the cemetery know so he will be careful when mowing. There is a grave marked by this way not far from where we live here in Oklahoma. It has been ther for years. >> Ellen, That's a wonderful idea. I live in Alabama, and am trying to help someone out with their genealogy research. I wanted to see about finding someone who knows more about the person so I thought I would leave out a message. Have you researched a U.S. Civil War unit or group? Are you willing and able to help others research that unit? The next version of the U.S. Civil War Units File (CWUNITS) will become available in late August. An announcement will be posted then. In the meantime I invite listings through Friday, August 20. The following addresses no longer work. If you are one of these people or know how to contact one, please email me. Unless I find new addresses I'll have to delete their listings. [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] (James Droegemeyer) [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] (Michael Laney) If you write to me, please do *NOT* include this message in your reply. My time and disk space are limited. Thanks! The purpose of the CWUNITS file is to let people list units, groups, battles, etc. that they have information on (from pension records, books, etc.) and are willing to help other people research. Typically the contact person had an ancestor who was in the unit, but re-enactors, history buffs, et al. are welcome. (This is _not_ a list of re-enactment units.) People who are interested in a unit can send the contact person email and share information. If you have questions please read the FAQ first. If it doesn't answer your question, feel free to ask me. Anyone who'd like to volunteer to be a contact, please send me email. If you are volunteering for more than one unit, it's OK to put them all in the same message. Please list your entries in this format (addresses are fake): Illinois (USA) 4th Illinois Cavalry, Co. F 1861-4 [email protected] 18th Reg. Ill. Infantry 1865 [email protected] (John Doe) Instructions -- include the following: Country (USA or CSA) and state. Start each entry with the number of the regiment or whatever. Years (if applicable, but not necessary). Your email address on each line. Your real name. Also please include a statement like "I volunteer to be a contact for this unit." This is so I can be sure that everyone I list understands what the file is for. This is a big project, and if you send listings in the wrong format I reserve the right to send it back for you to fix. If there's anything in your listings that is not obvious, tell me! If we can't get your listings complete and clear by the time I have to send the file to the uploaders, your listings cannot be included. If you already have listings in the file, there's no need to send them again. But if your address has changed, please tell me and send updated listings. On the WWW, the file is available on the American Civil War Homepage URL: http://sunsite.utk.edu/civil-war/warweb.html under the heading Rosters & Regimental Histories. To get the current version of the file by email at any time: Send email to [email protected] (Upper and lower case count in the email address and everywhere else.) Subject: archive For the FAQ, send the text: get genealog.cwunitsq The period (.) has to be after genealog and before the file name. To get a listing of all of the ROOTS-L files, send the command get roots-l.catalog Carol Botteron (ancestors on both sides) [email protected]
Hi list members, On just about every list I am on, someone routinely asks for sites because they have lost theirs in a crash. If you have Internet Explorer, go to the following http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q237/54.asp you will find the instructions for printing off your entire list of favorites. One thing this article does not mention is to chose Landscape before printing. Some address strings are longer than can be printed in Portrait. The first of every month, I print mine, throw the old one out and file the new one. Hope this helps solve a problem that will come up if it hasn't already. I learned the hard way too - been there done that! Marge
A site with excellent records for passenger lists with name of ship, dates, and even a soundex calculator at the site. Easy to navigate and full of information. I use it frequently. Hi: Here is the poem, I think you mean. This also gives an idea of how she uses the poem to place on a tombstone. I pasted it over from an old email, there was no author noted when I received it. Hope it helps. - ---------------------------- I received the following little "poem" from a friend who types this on a 3x5 card then puts her name, relationship, snail-mail address and e-mail address on the back, then laminates it, punches a hole in it and ties it to a single stem artificial flower and puts it on her ancestor's graves when she is visiting cemeteries whether those close by or in different states. That way the next person who might be researching may get in touch with her. I think this is a great idea. Dear Ancestor: Your tombstone stands among the rest; Neglected and alone The name and date are chiseled out On polished, marbled stone. It reaches out to all who care It is too late to mourn. You did not know that I exist You died and I was born. Yet each of us are cells of you In flesh, in blood, in bone. Our blood contracts and beats a pulse Entirely not our own. Dear Ancestor, the place you filled So many years ago Spreads out among the ones you left Who would have loved you so. I wonder if you lived and loved, I wonder if you knew That someday I would find this spot, And come to visit you. I have an ancestor who moved to the Chilton/Autauga Co, AL area ca 1819 or whenever Indian Land opened there. Are there any records for those land transactions? I can't pinpoint him or his brother during 1820. Thanks for any suggestions!! :)
I do not know if this is the right area or not! My name is Esther Dumas and I am in the process of trying to find the history of my husbands family. With adoptions and many lost documents we have only the following information; 1. Biological grandmother was Myrtle Sheppard a Cherokee Indian from Pennsylvania. 2. She at one point married a Louis Dumas from Quebec 3. From what we understand all her children were removed from her at or shortly after birth and at this point we are not sure how many children and descendants there were. We have not been giving any hope from any place that we have emailed and would greatly appreciate your assistance in this search. Sincerely Esther Dumas
Looking for Mason family from McDowell County, NC. Mary Mason had sons Andrew Amos Mason, and Sam Mason. Looking for other relatives. Also searching for info on Bolick and Grindstaff family from Yancey County,NC. My mother's mother was a Bolick who married Charlie Thomas. They had 4 children: Ransom, George, Casie, and my mother Mae Elizabeth. Anyone know this family? Don't know the relationship to the Grindstaff. Any help will be appreciated. Besides census records, land deeds and probate records/wills, what other resources are available that would show family members for ancestors who lived in SC from 1800 to 1840 and in AL from 1819 to 1864?
I have strong preponderance of evidence for an ancestor and would like to know if you can suggest any other sources that I might check out for PROOF. I have an ancestor Peter COOPER who went from "probably" Fairfield Co, SC to Chilton/Autauga Co, AL ca 1820. I have a "very probable" father for him named Adam Sr. Adam Sr had four sons, according to censuses. One "disappeared" before or in 1820. The other three were Adam B. Jr., Andrew, and George. Adam Sr had three daughters: Mary, Nancy, and Margaret. Adam Sr's father was named Peter, and he had a brother named Peter. Doesn't it stand to reason he would name a son Peter? I think Peter is the one who "disappeared" before or in 1820. My ancestor Peter COOPER appeared in Chilton/Autauga County, AL before or in 1820. Among his children were Adam, Andrew, George, Nancy, Mary, and Margaret. His earliest neighbors in AL were the same men who had lived near Adam Sr in Fairfield Co ca 1800, so it appears they all moved together. I have probate records for both Adam Sr and Peter. I have extensive land deeds for both and census info, and I have checked censuses to see if any of the brothers or sisters might have moved to Autauga/Chilton, but I simply can't find a needed PROOF. Can anyone suggest documents or other sources that I might have overlooked? THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AND HELP!! :)
Maybe Deutschland (Germany)? Just a guess.
