Hi everyone! I would like to ask all members of this list to take a minute to let everyone know a little about yourself and the family you're researching. Please change the subject line to the surname(s) you're researching….that would be most helpful! ;-) I'm looking forward to hearing from everyone! Hey teenage genealogists, I just wanted to let you all know that I have a subscription to Ancestry.com (not that great for Latin America or really anywhere outside of the U.S or the U.K but I am totally willing to give it a try) and I am willing to do a few lookups. First off let me say, please be understanding that I also am a full time student, and have other hobbies besides genealogy, so please, be easy. All I need from you is your email address (If you are not comfortable giving it to me, then I will send it to the group, just know that everyone will see the results) and as much information as possible about the person in question (Everything you got). Thanks ya'll. Hope this helps you. Oreocab@aol.com wrote: Wow everyone seems to have ancestry either in Sweden or UK... anyone doing research in Latin America, specifically South America? Hi Angela! Well, I am currently living in California, since it is my senior year in high school (Not sure what you all call it in other countries) I havent had much time to do research. I have been so busy just doing my senior year stuff that I havent had much time. The computer program I use is PDF (Made by the Latter Day Saints on their website, which my aunt claims is a gold mine of information, www.familysearch.org) PDF seems to get the job done, but I always feel as if it could be better. I know I would rather have Family Tree because it has alot of fancy features and can print rather beautifully, but being on a tight budget doesnt permit this....oh well. My ancestors (on my paternal grandfathers side) come from the Appalacian Mountains area (Near the Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia area....right around the area where the 3 states meet). The line in North Carolina and Tennessee began around the 1700s during the time of fur traders. It is rumored/storied that one of my ancestors came to this area with his family so he could do more hunting. Soon, more families were in the area. Now, still with a rather small amount of surnames for a modern town, nearly everyone seems to be related to eachother. My grandfather lived out there until he died. I was lucky enough to be able to go out there once and see the place where my great grandparents are buried (along with their family and a few misc friends). They are buried high up in the mountains to the point where you have to take a dirt road to get there. Once we got there we had to cut back the grass and bushes just to see the stones. I even discovered my grandfathers infant sister who had died. When I told him about it, he had no idea he even had an infant sister. (My family out there is VERY secretive....alot of infidelity in marriages and a few kids out of wedlock and such....and no one talks about it....even once everyone involved is dead except the person I am asking) It is rumored that this line immigrated to the U.S from Germany or Ireland/Scotland. No one really knows for sure because we cant seem to get it that far back. (It is believed the name was changed once in the U.S, but no one knows the original name). Surnames include: Dugger, Clawson, Bunton (off the top of my head) As for my maternal grandmother, she was born in Washington state but her grandparents/parents came from Wales. It is such a beautiful place out there. I have alot of information from once they were in the US, but once they are in Wales, however, I am knowing the thing I am missing are the church records to fill in alot of the gaps for that area. However, they usually want you to go there because the records were destroyed or the church isnt around anymore or who knows.....its rather frustrating As for my maternal grandfathers side, his family came from Germany and settled in the Indiana and Illinois area. I have them about as acurate as I can tell (Alot of sleeping around and illigitimate children and lieing about these illigitimate children going on....rather confusing). However, once they hit Germany, I am lost. The language barrier, once again, and having no idea where to start with Germany. Well, thats all I have time for. I hope you all have happy hunting! ----- Original Message ---- From: Lucas Joshua <joshua_lucas_ndn@yahoo.com> To: rlemay1407@earthlink.net; genteen@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, February 8, 2007 6:17:03 PM Subject: Re: [GENTEEN] From Oklahoma aka Indian Territory Hello: I hope this list starts being active.
