The Family History Department of the LDS Church has announced the release of the British Vital Records Index on compact discs for home use. This Windows based resource file contains information on more than 4.7 million christenings, births and marriages that occurred in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland from 1538 to 1888. This information came from British church and vital records collected as part of the Church's extraction program. The amount of information varies greatly by time period and locality. The British Vital Records Index is available for only $15 for 6 compact discs, item number 50028. The North American Vital Records Index is also now available for home use. The cost is only $19 for 7 compact discs, item number 50029. Both items require a Pentium processor or equivalent, Windows 95 or higher, 8MB RAM (minimum, 16 recommended), CD-ROM drive (8X recommended), SVGA monitor with 256 color capable video card, 25 MB hard disk space.
