My grandfather arrived in New York from Germany 25 Mar 1872 on ship Rhein. The passenger list only shows Germany and not the town or village he was from. Does anyone know if there are papers kept by the New York authorities that the passengers completed upon arrival and if so, how to go about searching them?. Thanks
